I worked at The Hindu full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place, great work ethics, good learnings

    Cons

Slower than snail it used to be. And a lot of office politics. All of which make the processes very unclear to a newbie, especially somebody from outside TH culture.

    Advice to Management

Please have more transparent processes so newcomers feel welcome and want to stay on.

    Pros

Good work-life balance is the best thing about The Hindu. Benefits and employee welfare are satisfactory.

    Cons

Unless you are self-motivated there will be no challenge at all. No recognition for hard work. Elitism in editorial.

I worked at The Hindu full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Being a part of easily the *best produced* newspaper in South India
    - The Hindu visiting card will open more doors than any other media publications at least in South India
    - A very dedicated readership
    - The company truly values ethical journalism and one won't feel the need to be sensationalist
    - A good canteen that serves vegetarian food and the company really pitches in as part of its medical reimbursements (though I hear this is changing rapidly)

    Cons

    - There is a good chance that you will end up on the wrong side of office politics and that will be endgame
    - Company lacks vision in encouraging local leadership
    - Too many lateral entries will leave you disillusioned if you are here on the long run
    - Far too many conservative-minded people indulging in petty politics
    - Terrible work-life balance. Most of the top level managers don't understand the need for social life

    Advice to Management

    Identify and leverage home-grown talent
