    Pros

The company cares about their people. There is a lot of room for growth. There is a lot of insentives to working there.

    Cons

Theft is pretty bad at some stores. Coverage was bad toward the end. End up coving multiple departments at once.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Family atmosphere, advancement opportunity, everything they do is in an effort to make the customer and associate experience as good as possible. Great benefits. 401k, tuition reimbursement, profit sharing, stock purchases at 15% discount, bonus payouts for salaried mgrs are exceptional.

    Cons

Store hours shifts typically start as early as 5am and go as late as 11pm. Work enviroment can be stressful at times. Need to invest in having more associates on the floor. Stores are getting old and need updated.

    Advice to Management

Invest in more associates. If you want to be the #1 customer service retailer in the world make sure the stores have enough bodies on the floor to execute your mission.

    Pros

Can be a fun work environment if you make it fun. Most people start off as temporary employees but management will try to find a permanent position for everyone.

    Cons

Advancement is very difficult. Waiting for a position to open up can take a long time since many people stay in their positions voluntarily.

    Advice to Management

Don't just promote the people who are the "suck ups" in the store. Look for the workers who actually go above and beyond their job's requirements.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Most co-workers are friendly and conscientious; retail customers are above average with the usual occasional "flakes" or pain-in-the necks. Benefits are above average, particularly retirement/401K. Health plan changed with new ACA law, but still good for full-timers.

    Cons

This is retail so there is always occasional guff from customers and mgmt, but not as bad as some. Wages are low,but above minimum, and upward mobility is limited to the select few. If you really like the retail career path, you need to let all the mgmt above you know your interest because this a BIG company and it's easy to get left behind. And because it IS a large corporation it has that mindset .. expect all the rules and behaviors will be dictated from headquarters - and that's for all levels!

    Advice to Management

Communication! Always be open to sharing all the information anyone may benefit from to do their job. I'm retired and this has ALWAYS been a problem with big corporations ( and I've experience with other Fortune 500 companies). If you EVER think something needs to be kept from the line-employee, you are probably making a mistake.
