I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Growth and advancement, 401k, bonus, stock, health care, diversity and inclusion, tuition reimbursment, making a difference with customers amd associates.

    Cons

No work/life balance. Depending on the person, a lot of managers dont enjoy throwing out garbage in compactor, working in a dusty warehouse where you are constantly enhailing cement and thinset particles. Being on your feet for extended amounts of time, walking on a concrete floor can be bad for you feet and back. At times having to do physical labor, picking up heavy merchandise. Working 12 to 16 hour days.

    Advice to Management

Keep positive, there is a lot going on in these stores and its easy to get frustrated. You are expected meet many metrics and sales and store appearance all while making sure associates are happy and most of all you (the store) are rated high on customer survey. Its a lot, take the time to enjoy your own life when you are not there and fovua there when you are. Keep smiling, associates are looking.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Advancement opportunities, training, working with good associates, building a network, great communication and clear and concise messaging from corporate down to field

    Cons

Long hours, inconsistent schedule work till midnight one day and open at 5 AM next day
Amount of visits from District, Regional and Corporate personnel that disrupt daily running of the store. Amount of payroll given to complete the needed tasks. Salaries for non management makes it difficult to hire in talent to develop a bench for succession planning.

    Advice to Management

Limit the amount of visits that are unnecessary and disrupt the flow of the business in order for the store to keep morale up and run efficiently and most importantly give the associates time to work with the customers instead of getting ready for another upcoming walk.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent Salary, good Company (but only if your superiors believe in it). Work satisfaction is very dependent on the atmosphere created by Store Manager.

    Cons

Poor work/life balance. Although Corporate ideals create a wonderful work environment, the truth is a Store Manager has sufficient latitude to create hell as long as they are skilled enough to work within the guidelines. Some try to wait out a bad boss (ASM and SM get moved round every couple of years), but if you are in their sights, it is rather easy to write you out.

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting managers and work more on leaders. It is amazing how easy it is to defeat the purpose of the VOA and keep one's position despite creating a toxic environment. I know for a fact that this is not true at all Stores, what is frightening is that these people are able to walk undetected among the good ones with relative impunity.

I worked at The Home Depot (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The people and benefits. Challenging work both mentally and physically at times. Constantly changing company trying to flow better and work more efficient- if you love change, this is your place!

    Cons

The people (ha!), the schedule is exhausting and too many hours. Very physical work. Concrete hard on legs and feet. Long hours. Most weekends. Most holidays. No life.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Manager incentive program. Opportunity for advancement. Great benefits. Good training program. Many different types of jobs. Excellent CEO and upper level staff. The company goes above and beyond to provide for associates.

    Cons

Seniority is weighted unofficially by some in upper level management. Corporate employees need to spend more time in stores to see how things actually operate on a day to day basis. Inconsistent scheduling.

    Advice to Management

More time spent in stores by SSC employees. More SSC employees reaching out to store side for feedback and advice before rolling out programs. Consistent scheduling or consistent days off for salaried ASM's. I know we get paid very well to have crazy schedules, but SM's & DM's get paid better and have consistent scheduling. It would be better for our health and well being.
