I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Core Values
    Great executive team
    National footprint.

    Cons

    Old IT systems
    “Ditch-to-Ditch” mentality for new initiatives
    Work/life balance

    Advice to Management

Focus funding on store selling skills, and revisiting those skills with associates, rather than measurement. You aren’t able to measure individual sales other then those on customer agreements and many associates cover multiple departments selling store skus you do not measure.

Careful on initiatives such as diversity; managers want to satisfy the initiative and some categories of associate get left out even if best qualified.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Decent benefits, profit sharing,

    Cons

Lack of communication from management. Everything is very corporate driven rather than letting a store run their business. Very low moral among both associates and managers.

    Advice to Management

Listen to associates needs and concerns and actually take it to heart.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Lots of opportunities in many different departments.
    -Name recognition.

    Cons

-Work/life balance is a huge problem
-Different departments operate under their own rules instead of corporate rules
-Big-time politics, lack of accountability. Everything is somebody else's fault.
    -Insane amount of meetings.

    Advice to Management

What is the job? What do we need to do? Start finding a way to cut back on the meetings and filter out the politics. This company should be worth twice as much as it is considering the talent and the sheer size.
