I worked at The Home Depot full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company as a whole has great benefits and offers in depth training on responsibilities.

    Cons

Depending on the store team you are either winning or losing. Your day to day goes great with a good team of people unwilling to spread gossip and do their job to the best of their ability. With an unchecked management team, a store can go downhill quickly with morale leading to numbers, customer service, and daily work life suffering.

    Advice to Management

Create a system that runs itself properly. Micromanaging does not work, yelling will not work, and being write up happy especially does not work. Lead by example first and make sure you have a winning team.

    Pros

    It's a job. That's it.

    Cons

If you look up all the worst possible traits of management, this place is the winner. Rude, disrespectful, promotes cliques and favoritism, racist against whites, complete and total lack of communication regarding schedules, expectations, just about everything. If you are white you get treated like crap, since you are excluded from the diverse cliques. Management consists of yelling at associates to figure out how to do the impossible. Zero motivation, useless training, can't effectively help customers at all. If I could give a zero I would. Couldn't wait to get away, extremely unprofessional.

    Advice to Management

Get some effective management skills training. Seriously. It's not fricking East LA where gang rules apply.

I worked at The Home Depot (More than a year)

    Pros

Good bonuses, if you go to school or have another job they work with you schedule

    Cons

Hard to make full time. And you get over time. A lot of favoritism and friend ships get in the way of work. My supervisor would let her friend walk around with her all day instead of being on the register. So it would make the front in short. Breaks and lunches wouldnt be in time. If you needed money for your till the would always bring it late.

    Advice to Management

Make every work. Open up more full time positions

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company offers many different programs for the benefit of their employees. Generally a fun place to work with positive energy. The company rewards employees for their efforts in several areas. Possibility for advancement seemed decent. It is fairly easy to transfer to another location.

    Cons

Poor management and poor communication on a large scale. This problem may have only been at the location I worked at, however, this seemed to be a corporate wide issue. Another huge problem I saw was that it was their regular procedure to hire temps and cycle them out every 90 days in order to avoid paying for their health benefits or one of the other many programs they offer to their full-time employees.

    Advice to Management

Build a working bridge between shipping/receiving and the rest of the store. They seems to be two completely separate worlds that clash in every way possible. They have complete opposite goals. One team's goal is to get as much freight out of shipping/receiving and onto the floor, regardless as to how it is done. The other team's goal is to have the merchandise organized and in its proper "home" even as the merchandise is palletized. There is essentially two crews working against each other 363 days a year. I cannot even give a figure to express the wasted labor dollars this major error has created. Not to mention the morale that is created with efficiency and productivity.

    Pros

Home Depot was a cool environment, met lots of nice people and department heads were really cool. Some of the assistant managers weren't so cool. Store manager is cool.

    Cons

Hours are very inconsistent. They're horrible. You might get 28 hours one week and 4 the next. Then none. Then 16. Then 20. Then 32. There was no type of consistency.

    Advice to Management

Give consistent hours to part time workers! No need to hire more and more people! Give hours to those already employed!
