I worked at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good company atmosphere, it's never a slow day if you like your day that way.

    Cons

Could really use better access to things like forklift training. Having my forklift cetification would have made things better for me and the customers, but it took months for a class to be availble. It was annoying to always have to hunt down the 2-3 forklift people availbe per shift and pull them off what they are doing.

    Advice to Management

Really good atmosphere, but I really think having more forklift operators would make things better both for employees and customers.

I have been working at The Home Depot (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work when it comes to the teamwork and family aspect of working. I really enjoyed learning the procedures and processes of the customer service desk.

    Cons

Some of the managers didn't seem to really understand how to work as a team, which some time hindered other departments from doing their assigned task to completeness.

    Advice to Management

Please understand as management you are not just there to tell people what to do. In my opinion managers are meant to lead and show workers how to work. After all you are only as strong as your weakest link.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fast paced environment that allows you to give back to the community in various ways. Provides growth for hourly Associates. Decent compensation for the workload.

    Cons

Career bottlenecking: Potential career growth is directly attached to your mobility. Unfortunately, that mobility needs to be very generous. Positions open up nationwide, but it is tough to find the next position locally.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time

    Pros

Flexible schedule, easy to request off days

    Cons

Though flexible time is good, they often scheduled me on days I specifically told them I could not work before I got hired, and is inconsistent hours

I have been working at The Home Depot as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Work a lot of shifts to get vacation weeks. Sometime it's slow and busy but usually busy during on holidays.

    Cons

I really don't have any cons though. Everything is going well for the way that I see it. Gotta work a lot of hours to get some more paid vacation weeks.

    Advice to Management

Work hard. Do what you supposed to do and everything will be good to go.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great camaraderie, managers and supervisors are friendly, store manager is approachable.

    Cons

Opportunities for advancement appears to be available to everyone but that's not the case. It can be made very difficult to go full time and others who has less tenure and seeked advancement after you will be chosen based upon favoritism. Even if you have done everything right and you're very dependable.

Cashiers also rarely (never in my tenure) get commended at the two major store meetings a year. Also, the gossiping is ridiculous.

    Advice to Management

Stop selling THD advancement in interviews like it is possible when in reality, it's less than 50% possible unless you plan to suck up.
