I have been working at The Home Depot (Less than a year)

    Pros

At Home Depot they value diversity. Home Depot also has great advancement potential. You don't need a degree to advance within the company.

    Cons

The salary they pay is not enough for most people to survive on. They also need to do a better job with scheduling.

    Advice to Management

Show appreciation to your employees and provide them with the necessary support so that they can reach the company's goals.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very little micromanagement, once trained it's up to you to get work done.
Management was relatively easy to work for.

    Cons

After initial setup, difficult to get your weekly schedule changed by management.
Not challenging work, though depending on what you're looking for that might not be bad, I would rate as "mind numbing".

    Advice to Management

Keep an eye on hours worked during the week. I can only think of one example, but a part-time employee would work more hours than assigned during the week and then "need" to not come in on weekends in order to avoid overtime. Gaming the system upsets other employees and is unfair.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits package, opportunities for growth, 401K, Profit sharing, and sense of team work. And we offer great products at a great price. What's not to love about the big Orange box? And getting to meet the CEO Frank Blake who is such a regular guy has been a real highlight. I started selling tile and now I design whole houses!

    Cons

At this store, the customers have unreasonable expectations and can be quite rude. No, you cannot have a kitchen in two weeks. No, I cannot sit down with you without an appointment and design your kitchen in a day. But if you give me the time, you will be happier in the end. This is what I have to tell customers right off the bat. Some get it. Some don't. Thank God management backs me up.

    Advice to Management

    De-centralize the scheduling.
