I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Mostly very pleasant customers and good coworkers. Flexible scheduling for part-time.

    Cons

Corporation bases daily staffing on sales from one year ago that date- not realistic as it leads to poor coverage of departments (if sales low that day last year) on very busy days and results in unhappy customers. Minimal chances of advancement within company. Wages are low for the amount of work the associates perform; no financial incentive to work towards fork lift and machine licenses despite the responsibilities they require.

    Advice to Management

Please come out of the office once in a while- get to know us as people and as hard workers. The words "thank you" sometimes mean more to us than you might know. It would be nice to hear them more often.

    Pros

very little pros. get hired at the highest pay rate possible because raises are miniscule even with an outstanding employee evaluation by your supervisor.

    Cons

customers are rude and mostly stupid. supervisors are lazy and management is clueless as so what goes on in their store. high school all over again with cliques getting special treatment.

    Advice to Management

show up unexpectedly to get a real idea of how your stores are being run and forget the "dog and pony shows" that are put on for you when they know when you are coming for a visit. talk to the associates privately and they will tell you "the emperor has no clothes!" forget the yes men you put in charge and hire some leaders who will tell you the truth!
