I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company has excellent benefits. People who work there are great, welcoming and friendly. Opportunity for leadership and career growth if you show promise.

    Cons

Even the store manager can do very little about your pay. Not paid enough for the work and effort put in at the higher levels like Department supervisors

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Helping customer overcome DIY hurdles with the right tools and knowledge.

    Cons

Worked for 7 years and they hired people with no clue and paid them similar wage.

    Advice to Management

Take stock in your Employees. I quit and now most of my old Department employees as well. All long term employees. Staffing with Warm Bodies is the only priority.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I've been working at The Home Depot just over a year, and overall I have had a really good experience. On the Merchandise Execution Team, we have a strong supervisor who values us, works with us on the floor, and provides substantial opportunities for training. She encourages all of us to learn as much as we can, and because of that I have worked in General Service (GS), Bay Integrity Tasking (BIT), projects, and more recently have had the opportunity to supervise the team when she is on vacation or away at meetings. The team members get along well and we are never afraid to ask one another questions and share laughable moments in the aisles.

    Cons

Honestly, it's the How to Deal with Difficult People dilemma. While everyone works well, we have some interesting characters on the team. Sometimes they have a tendency to draw others into their misery. I imagine that happens in most industries. My strongest con is that we don't always have the support from the store manager when projects and other tasks need to be handled efficiently. For example, we have spent an entire day (almost 8 hours) putting up displays etc for a new event, and the store mgr will wait until it's almost time to go home to check our progress and then decide she wants things done in a completely different way. What a waste of time! Oh, and another thing... the MET receives information on policy changes that should occur throughout the store, and the store associates (as well as some ASMs) will not be aware of the new policy. Better communication is needed.

    Advice to Management

Make it a priority to attend the MET monthly meetings to hear our pros and cons, our list of suggestions, and be prepared to work with us as best you can. Attitude reflects leadership!

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay is good considering difficulty of work. They offer college tuition assistance for part-timers, something like $1500/year. Lot jobs are a lot of physical work which is good for anyone seeking extra exercise.

    Cons

There is no employee discount. Schedules go out 3 weeks im advance which makes it difficult for a college student's unpredictable homework situation.

    Advice to Management

I would enjoy more leniency when it comes to calling out of work. I have only done this 2-3 times in a year and each time I fear that I may get fired.
