I have been working at The Home Depot full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

I'm trying to think of one but nothing comes to mind. If you dont know what a bad job is before you get this one you will soon find out.

    Cons

No work life balance, WAY underpaid. Dumping ground for everyone being you are the lowest salaried employee. Hostile work environment. This position is disposable. Managers that are extremely unethical and do not care. Crooked sales people who are not held accountable. Dont walk from this job....RUN!

    Advice to Management

Take the value wheel seriously and not as company sponsored propaganda. Actually do something other than every year you say that you hear us and things will change. Integrity in how you deal with employees and principal over profits would be refreshing.

I have been working at The Home Depot

    Pros

Decent benefits that kick in after 90 days. Vacation time after one year and personal/sick time that constantly accrues. If store management likes you, there is room for advancement and you can become a salaried assistant manager of a store within a few years without needing a college degree, though it helps to have one. Yearly raises. Bi-yearly profit sharing opportunities if the store meets or beats its sales plan.

    Cons

No employee discount for store merchandise. As a sales specialist, you work closely with customers to order the right special order products for their projects, but you are not paid any commission on the thousands of dollars of sales you make for the company, though your sales are tracked and you can get in trouble if you don't make your assigned dollar amount of sales per hour worked. The company computer system runs...

    Advice to Management

Don't shuffle assistant managers around so often, especially the specialty sales ASMs. Often, a merchandising ASM is thrown into specialty sales and they haven't had enough experience or training to know what they're doing, which is frustrating for employees who know how to do their job better than the ASM.
