    Not enough full time positions

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Good benefits and that's it.

    Cons

Everything from pay, daily routines, management, theft is ridiculous. Thieves take whatever they want and wave to you on the way out. As an Asset Protection Specialist your not allowed to stop them and they usually play the race card after they steal something to try and get you fired so it will be easier for them next time. The policies that Home Depot have are catered to theft. Everything is insured, with that being said, merchandise is being stolen faster than it is being bought so they're making more money from insurance than that of the honest customer....terrible.

    Advice to Management

I've got nothing because they don't care about anything but their own career.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly co-workers. Most are there to help.

    Cons

Terrible management - reactive not proactive. Believe you are just a number & ask way too much from Associates for the money they pay. If you are not part of the 'boys network' you will not be promoted.

    Advice to Management

Start paying Associates more & get rid of the non-performing Associates. Make them accountable for their performance. If you ca't then quit.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Meet new people
    Learn new products

    Cons

Lots of micro-managing. Every department manager wants to play boss, no matter the department. Understaffed at busy times.

    Advice to Management

Stop micro-managing. Fully staff the department. That's my complaint.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

One of the best reasons to work at home depot is the sense of family among fellow employees.

    Cons

I believe that the salary compensations are too low.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Close to home to be able to afford gas

    Cons

Wages are not competitive at all, starting salary has been a flat 10 dollars an hour for well over 5 years! What they gave us for the corporate tax cut was an insult. Most other companies increased the hourly salary by 1 dollar. You are using the bulk of the tax cut to LOAD up on merchandise! We can see through your smoke screen!

    Advice to Management

The associates are the face of the company to the customers, they deserve more. Quit understaffing you can not provide great customer service if you are understaffed almost of the time.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Getting to interact with people and help them troubleshoot with home needs/issues.

    Cons

-Seriously underpaid for the amount of knowledge and customer service skills needed for the jobs on the floor.
-They pitch all these cute incentive programs in orientation and training, but they don't actually follow through with them.
-If you want to climb the ladder, you'll wait for years.
-If the store is understaffed, which is always, you'll be doing 3 people's jobs for the same low pay, and almost zero appreciation.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to treat everyone equally. Your associate's shouldn't be the first ones to smile and say Hello. Act like you actually care about the people working in your stores...and no just throwing parties and feeding people occasionally doesn't cover that. Cut back on the micromanaging; It's obnoxious and completely unnecessary. You can't use 'budget' as an excuse for not paying out on an incentive program you use to pitch your positions and company as a whole. It makes the company look bad. Biggest thing: We understand your jobs are stressful, but you are NOT the only ones under stress. If I have to leave my bad attitude/problems at home, you should too. STOP taking it out on Associates that do nothing but help you. (If you're wondering why the turn-over rate is so high, that is why.)

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Move your current employees into sales and management positions other than bringing new comers off the street to fill those roles.
