I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

underlings had a sense of community and pride. Were willing to bleed orange. Employees were treated like family

    Cons

But just like a family, there were lies and deceit and drama. Small talk behind everyone's back. Promises from Management that were idle and only used to leverage compliance, especially in the realm of advancement

    Advice to Management

Stop blowing smoke up your employees' rear ends. eventually someone will snap

    Pros

People, it's a job, Great starting pay for a first job.

    Cons

Managers have a lack of communication together at my store.

    Advice to Management

Have better communication with what needs to be done and realize that associates can do but only so much while trying to complete things for supervisors.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

If you have a minimum wage job, this will pay a little more. Some of the people were nice, and overall customers were ok.

    Cons

Hours, Pay for what they expect, and they will eventually put you in ANY department to cover. Meaning, if you are hired to do one thing, guess what, you will get tossed where needed not even knowing the department, for the same amount of pay. Will also expect you to deal with crappy schedule changes. Hey, its a big box store. Favorites are played.

    Advice to Management

Edinburgh- ches. VA Store - Cliques. More so from young freight team associates that are quiet and smile when you are around, but try being in store when it is after hours. Different vibe, and it is bad. Obnoxious kids.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They have a very strong department with a lot of inventory that is presented well. They have the ability to easily work up a custom estimate on windows or doors with their computer program. Pricing is very competitive.

    Cons

There is a great deal to learn at first. Just the overall layout of the store so that you can help Customers find specific items was difficult. Memorizing the basic info for all the products in the department takes more time than is given. Not much support on the floor for a new hire. Your suppose to shadow a seasoned Associate but that never happened and thus a very valuable part of training was overlooked and caused problems.

    Advice to Management

Stick to the written training program and provide training on the floor following computer training about the department and job position. Associates are left on their own after computer training and this causes many problems when your onn the floor without supervision.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of new skills to learn. Classes and advance skills are taught online and are easy to master. Parties and catered meals when store does well. Leadership and management structure easy to understand.

    Cons

Advancement is difficult, even when motivated and with the proper skills. Management is only worried about themselves and not helping others advance.

    Advice to Management

Improve on communication and allowing sales associates to advance

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed what I did there with selling flooring. Associates there were generally nice

    Cons

It's retail, and all that comes with it including self righteous customers and pushes from management to take anything customers dish out to you. Management was never supportive of associates when issues arose, despite witnesses that associate acted in appropriate manner, write ups were still handed out without associate being given a chance to defend themselves. Had customers so rude they brought associates to tears, with their own spouses begging them to "just drop it" and the "offending" associate was the one written up.

    Advice to Management

Give your associates a chance to explain. Sometimes the customer is not always right.
