I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

flexible hours, flexible schedule when you need off, you learn from contractors and other associates

    Cons

    -Always understaffed
-Sales associate are always pushed/forced do freight ( supposed to be over night stocking) and special service
-Uncle Homer is getting pretty greedy with no increase in salary. When I started in 2014 it was like 10hr now it's 11 because they raised the starting salary so technically your experience is nothing, you will get paid the same like a fresh garden associate from the street
    - Turn over rates are high because of Uncle Homer ultimate greed. when was the last time you visited the Home Depot and found someone to help you in places like plumbing or lumber? even if you find someone they are too busy doing freight and other people's job because they are always understaffed

    Advice to Management

-Try to be less greedy when you are the second biggest corporation in the US after Walmart (101 billion) your competitors pay their employees 50% more than you do hint: Lowes, Menards
    - instead of making infocus videos about staying hydrated in summer provide your employees with actual water. Two weeks in a row and the water dispenser is empty in the break room
-Having less employees can save some money but thefts (no one in the aisles), customer dissatisfaction, and employees turn over cost way more than you think

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great place to work, if you don't mind doing your job, your supervisor's job and few co-worker's jobs at a pay rate that is the same as someone that doesn't even know their clock in number yet.

    Cons

You will be trained during your work hours and you will have customers complaining that you don't help them enough even if you bend over backwards for them, then management will take you to the office and tell you how poorly your work performance is only based on that last customer complain not the other calls from customers saying how great of a job you did helping them and meeting their needs.

    Advice to Management

Schedule people for training before they are put on the sales floor. Train everyone on Reach Truck and OP. Two ballymore and 2 reach truck machines would be nice and remove old broken ladders from stores. And make sure you praise those that do the job of two and three employees not only those who come to work do their job, tell others that they are too busy to help or refuse to spot for those who drive. And keep specialists in their department not all over the store if you are going to complain about their sales numbers.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Do not expect you to work very hard

    Cons

Low pay, do not consider years of trade experience as hav.ing any value

    Advice to Management

Go back to to what made the company great. Instead of trying to use fresh off the street non skilled workers to advise customer on trade problem that need a trade professional.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Busy atmosphere that makes the time go by quicker

    Cons

One week I have 24 hours and the next week I have 12. It would be nice to have consistency. Some days they start me at 6 am and other days they start me at 6 pm. It would be nice to have a more consistent time schedule. Almost every time i try to request a modification to my availability it comes back and says "Denied"

    Advice to Management

See my comments in Cons. Try to provide more consistent times and the same amount of hours each week. I'm one of the hardest working employees in my department, yet they will give more hours to the lazy non productive employees. I would be very afraid to depend on a lifetime career from HD

I worked at The Home Depot (More than a year)

    Pros

Management cared about people's lives. It wasn't the typical retail environment. Yes, budgets and comps mattered but so do the people. I really enjoyed my management, both at my store and above them within the region.

    Cons

During peak season, it can be stressful. There's opportunities to earn overtime but often for supervisors, that would be forced on you because you wanted to take care of your department if someone didn't show up. Turnover is a big issue.

It can get a little hectic at times as a head cashier but it was still a pretty good company to work with.

    Keep up the awesome work!

    Pros

    Friendly Helpful Staff. Flexible Hours.

    Cons

Salary isn't enough for the length of time you are helping customers as well as standing/walking.

    Advice to Management

Training before starting on the floor is great however, improvement is needed on floor training. There needs to be a lead associate assigned to new associates.
