I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very friendly environment (depending on which store), many opportunities to learn about products, acquire new skills, and good for a beginner resume. I was able to move departments and after showing excellent work ethic, I was able to move wherever I wanted to in the store, when the position was available. Learn how to use tools/equipment in the store. Good breaks (IF you have proper coverage...). Mainly, its a good place to start if you're young or keep you busy if you want somewhere to retire. Pretty good benefits, although I didn't make enough to afford those benefits..

    Cons

*In my experience* the harder you work, the more opportunities you get BUT the thinner you are stretched and you may feel very taken advantage of like I did. I did what was asked of me and more once management and other workers realized that, I didn't have much breathing space, skipped many breaks and didn't have much of a chance to wind down. I definitely think the more experience you have and the more training/qualifications you have, compensation should go up. No doubt wages should go up (they claim they pay better than bigger corps), but I think they can do better for the environment people are put in and especially with the amount of work people put in. I am glad I worked there and learned a lot but wish I worked there for a shorter period of time and moved on.

    Advice to Management

Keep on top of things, treat ALL employees with respect. Help them out, my manager at W Broad in Columbus, Ohio was great. The manager in my current location, quite the opposite. Learn to communicate properly with your workers and make sure things are kept up with. Most people there seem to be good, hardworking and caring people. Treat them how they deserve to be treated, please and thank you.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good attitude, management at my location really cared, flexible hours, days off frequently given

    Cons

Locations vary on the quality of the job in a huge way, it can be very cliquish- but once you're past the turnover point in the good stores- you'll be accepted in, very difficult to get promotions

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They are there to help with any emergency either physically or even financially. The people who work there are great! Actually care about each other.

    Cons

The hours are never consistent with part time help. The management does not do a great job of communicating things to the lower level jobs. If you have any attendance issues before your 90 days, whether it is a medical emergency or not they are unforgiving.

    Advice to Management

Try harder to include opinions of part time workers. Maybe not have such a hard line on the 90 day employee rule. Some things are unavoidable.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good opportunities, promotes from within, great employee culture.

    Cons

Rude customers/not enough employees to deal with work loads, baseline compensation not really worth the amount of work expected. Rude/inexperienced managers, conflict of interests.

    Advice to Management

Department managers should work together for the benefit of the store not everyone for themselves.
