I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I know plumbing. I Have been set THD for a little over two months. I am a DAV. I get to answer the questions everyone wants to duck. At the end of the day I know just like when I worked in emergency medicine, I've solved a lot of problems for a lot of people in a short time. I'm almost ready for my PK exam.

    Cons

Honestly, know your stuff! Learn every chance you get on My Apron! If you don't know what your talking about, a savvy customer will chew you up and spit you out. On the other hand, a DIY may end up with buyers remorse, and that's never good.

    Advice to Management

I'm happy in plumbing. It's like being a vascular specialist. I don't mind helping in electrical or hardware when I can, but I am not an aspiring neurologist, or orthopedic specialist either.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Benefits, diversity,

    Cons

Pay, schedules accountability, work performance review and training

    Advice to Management

Need follow up with ASM on how they are rating associates on they work performance, because they do not follow SOP and they are quick to pencil others and need to investigate why the morale at some store is low and that affects customer service.

    Pros

Easy job one can do with their eyes closed.

    Cons

Can't get days off, even when requested two months in advance. They say they "..understand that the associates are the key to our success..." and they aren't totally clueless. They also say "...We continually look for ways to ensure associates have equal access to growth and development opportunities." Yet they offer no real training, offer minimal raises, starting at $.23/hr, rate you as "Well Positioned" instead of promoting excellent Employees. Totally mismanaged human resources...
Shifts are all over the place and employees can't find other jobs due to scheduling. If you can pin them down to a regular shift, it's in the middle of the day, so you can't get another part time job. Six years and still making 11.50/hour! With a Master's Degree! They promote their youngest and least experienced. Age discrimination is rampant here!

    Advice to Management

Pay your people, give them time off when it's requested, and hold HR accountable when requested time off is denied.
