I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very supportive work environment, learn new skills, good training, good starting wages, great benefits. Also volunteer opportunities with Team Depot.

    Cons

Not many downsides. Associates stay employed for extended periods of time, some upwards of 20+ years.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Not many. They just refused to spend any money in cultivation of potential clients. Relied too much on store traffic, which were people just trying to buy paint and hammers not Roofs and Windows

    Cons

    FAR too many to name

    Advice to Management

Act like you want to be involved in what ultimately is the Final Representation of your success. Don't just collect a paycheck and go through the steps, really find a way to integrate what success demands. It's the main reason the company had to Downsize to the degree it did

    Pros

pay started out at $11/hr which was great, management and HR were approachable, range of health benefits

    Cons

constantly cycling through employees, my short term disability coverage did nothing for me when I became ill and couldn't work for months claim was denied and had to quit.

    Advice to Management

safety training isnt EVERYTHING, look out for your employees

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay for management. Good benefit packages. Can be a fun filled environment. Opportunity to grow within the company. You will meet many different people and can build life long relationships. You can learn a lot of information on how to fix, remodel and build homes which can save you a lot of money out of your own pocket over years.

    Cons

Communication and consistency is horrible. Customer service support is virtually gone. Pay is not enough for the average associate hiring into the company. Not enough associates or managers in the stores anymore to successfully run a business. You will work almost every weekend and have little time to raise your family.

    Advice to Management

Stop with the excuses for acting like a robot. Compassion and empathy for our extended family who are our customers has been so diminished due to lack of employees. Home Depot keeps cutting there linesman while the head honchos keep there jobs with high pay.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people are great to work with in a positive and productive environment. Promotion isn't far from reach in a relatively short period of time. Your time here is what you make of it, and is dictated on your personal goals for success

    Cons

Wages are less than they should be for the work that is expected of everyone. Always understaffed even with new hires at high populated locations. Not enough hours if part time except during spring and early summer months.

    Advice to Management

Continue to support your team and actually teach and communicate with those under you. Being the boss when need be, but also balancing it with being approachable. Lead by example and don't forget you are in the spotlight, because your associates watch the things you do and say but also what you don't.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Starting rate of $12/hr, promises of quick progression, set schedule

    Cons

"Part time" is strictly enforced as only a 4 hour shift, allowing a week of $12/hr to only come out to about $300 before taxes.

    Advice to Management

If you want loyalty, show it in our paychecks, which means the hours have to compliment the starting rate.

    Pros

Work with great people...nice social events

    Cons

It is retail...full time means long undesirable hours that can create family stress...also can be quite physical at times... No commissions...weak profit sharing plan which does not reward top performers...low hourly pay

    Advice to Management

This is a mega corporation any advice any individual can give management has already been thought of and considered

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay is excellent for salary leaders, Performance bonus two times per year, Brand is highly recognized and respected

    Cons

Worklife balance, Career development/opportunities, no PTO.

    Advice to Management

ASMs are overworked and looked over for improvements within the associate umbrella. We want better insurance rates, PTO, and consistent scheduling.

    Pros

Interaction with customers and working when the store is closed. Hard work, more like working out. Work hard and don't expect a pat on the back for the job that you are hired to do.

    Cons

changing management. Pay could be better of course.

    Advice to Management

    Train new management asap.
