I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Fast Paced environment, despite all the difficulty customers there are quite a few really awesome ones, a lot of problem solving and critical thinking involved.

    Cons

The scheduling. The store is open from 6am to 10pm, would be no issue if they could find a way to schedule fairly, the system they use tends to set certain associates into "trend" I.e. Close every single Friday, or never get a Saturday or a Sunday off, rarely ever get 2 days off in a row, etc.

    Advice to Management

Grow the people's hours from within. My particular store has part timers who have been in it for 5+ years still hoping for full time. They get very frustrated when they have open availability and only get 14 hours per week, and they watch new hires get more hours.

    Pros

Great technology and IT support creates ease of use and hands on learning

    Cons

Not the best selection of leaders

    Advice to Management

From my personal experience Management needs to support the newer programs and innovative thinkers in the building rather than reprimanding them for not conforming to more traditional system

    Pros

Potlucks, benefits, success sharing, great coworkers, mostly decent managers

    Cons

Favoritism and not enough hours for part timers. Understaffed departments, bad schedules. Closing at night and opening early mornings is normal and then off three days in a row. Little possibility for advancement. Great part time job for high school or college.

    Advice to Management

Need to do better schedules, some managers need to learn to talk to employees. favoritism is not great for morale

    Pros

The knowledge you can attain from working here will help you in a lot of home improvement jobs at home.

    Advice to Management

Do not cut hours then hire more employees. Give those hours to the people already working there.

    Pros

    Cons

the staff level was too low, many associates were covering for more than one department on busy weekends.

    Advice to Management

Management at the local level needs to hire more associates to cover for all departments, especially during the busy weekends.
