I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Company is stable # 4 Retailer in volume in US. Easy to transfer locations, systems are constantantly updated and technology is very efficient.

    Cons

Favoritism, store managers and District managers promote their favorites, moving up not based off merit. Terrible pay increases even for top rated supervisors. Poor work life balance, terrible turnover ratio, entirely too much freight is sent to stores increasing workload and stress on Associates who are asked to assist every customer, finish all freight, stay up to date on training, maintain the store all for low wages.

    Advice to Management

Pay Associates a higher wage like Lowe's does, cut the amount of freight sent to stores. Pay a higher percentage toward health insurance for hourly Associates, allow more full timers to limit turnover. Stop using all the company's wealth on salaried managers bonuses and take better care of the workforce. Lowe's does which is why I left.

    Pros

Manage a multi Million dollar department it's a great starting manager job.

    Cons

Low paying, not enough hours to cover all the shifts, watching several departments at a time, new department supervisors aren't trained properly. Upper management won't hold supervisors accountable. Poor training for all new hires.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the best reasons for working there are the knowledge you get about products that you would have never known about without working there. Also IT is s good company to move up to higher positions.

    Cons

the hours can be pretty low during the winter months. Its also hard to get a full time position since most of the associates are part time. there are no set hours and it makes it hard to get a second job.

    Advice to Management

my advice to them is to have more relevant training on the cpu.a lot of the training is just on products that the customers never ask about.they also need to have more hands on training instead of all the computer training..
