I worked at The Home Depot part-time for less than a year

    Pros

You get a lot of walking around the whole store

    Cons

Can't leave until deliveries for the day were complete or had enough time to roll over to the next employee scheduled work time.

    Advice to Management

do better with scheduling and get an actual delivery department because some of the orders were too large to store in the order fulfillment cages and caused aisles to become cluttered.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time for more than a year

    Pros

you'll gain experience with a lot of the equipment and the proper use with them. you'll also build relationships with fellow associates and department supervisor(s). and gain the knowledge needed to help your PRO and DIY customers. discounts are provided via partnerships with other company's (discounts ranging from 0% - 10%) 401k program work schedules are released 3 weeks in advance

    Cons

you will need to be able to stand firm on company policy when necessary. ie: (cleaning fees, fuel fees and/or repair charges IF APPLICABLE). even when you don't want to. while showing grace in other certain circumstances. Upper management (not rental department supervisor) usually side with the customer on issues like (customer wants free rental) (customer brought the tool back disgustingly dirty but doesn't want to...

    Advice to Management

listen to the lower associates and department supervisors more, just because they get paid less doesn't mean they don't have good ideas. fix the staffing issues in the store. raise the pay of the good associates more than just 25 cents per year make it easier to promote the good associates

I worked at The Home Depot part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Flexible scheduling if you can cover in multiple roles Decent management Fair training Good benefits

    Cons

Low pay but it is retail Improve your methods of assessment for department heads with less emphasis on how long they've been there and more on their team building skills. A poor manager change can KILL any existing chemistry within a smooth working store resulting in an increase in turnover. Make your decisions based on their management skill more than it's their time. They have to be people oriented with a healthy...

    Advice to Management

Think long and hard before you throw a new manager into the mix at a smooth running store try increasing the bonus % if a manager is being effective and increasing the market, low morale brought out by a manager that does not match the personality of the store can impede customer service.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Pays over minimum wage, okay benefits for part-time employees. Maybe a decent job for a college kid or a retired person that wants part-time work.

    Cons

Hours aren't steady (open one day, close the next)always short handed, company in general relies heavily on part-time employees. Lack of communication from management. Seems to be a pretty high turnover.

    Advice to Management

Full-time, well taken care of employees, tend to stick around longer and work harder. The company in general needs to take a look at it's business practices.

I have been working at The Home Depot

    Pros

Easy job one can do with their eyes closed.

    Cons

Can't get days off, even when requested two months in advance. They say they "..understand that the associates are the key to our success..." and they aren't totally clueless. They also say "...We continually look for ways to ensure associates have equal access to growth and development opportunities." Yet they offer no real training, offer minimal raises, starting at $.23/hr, rate you as "Well Positioned" instead of...

I worked at The Home Depot part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Success sharing. Can have fun at work. Can have good and enjoyable talks with customers. Plenty of opportunities to grow some. Can be pretty flexible with schedules.

    Cons

Schedules can be made a month and a half in advance which can be hard to work around if no one can cover your shift. Management can be very lazy. Often times you’re left alone on the floor if you are a sales associate. Work load can be dumped on you if they see that you actually work. They will move you around where they need you. Even if it isn’t your official job title.

    Advice to Management

Lead by example. Your employees will notice and be more motivated.
