I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employees can move upwards and create a long term career.
    Lots of team building
    Continuous training

    Cons

Standing / working / moving on the concrete floor for long periods.
    Few weekends off

    Advice to Management

Rotate weekends off so employees can spend time with families. Not everyone wants to "bleed orange".

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

My team in my department is a lot of fun to work with and I've made some good friends throughout other departments.

    Cons

Yikes, where to start. Everyone makes the standard amount if you're not a specialist or a manager. They also work you 38 hours a week if you let them, not to mention that sometimes they'll schedule you for a 8-10 day work week. You can try to ask them to redo the schedule but they will usually say that there's nothing they could do. Meanwhile you're on day 6 of the streak while your coworker in the same department is on his fifth day off in a row despite not asking for any days off.

There's little to no room for growth unless you're prepared to do WAY too much work to get there. Don't even bother putting them as a reference either since they can't disclose information about how well you do or don't work.

Oh and finally, NO employee discount on anything in the store. As a cashier though, you can markdown items for customers to keep them satisfied (like taking ten percent off a broken bag of soil or something) but you will be reprimanded if you're caught giving a markdown for an employee because why should they receive the same treatment.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You work with lots of different people and therefore learn many things, you get great opportunities for advancement very good pay and benefits .

    Cons

As an employee you must at times cover a department that you are not familiar with due to an associate not showing up for work, and customers get frustrated because you might not be able to find the products right away.

    Advice to Management

Communicate with the supervisors and the associates at the same time so that everyone is on the same page it will make everyone feel important.

    Pros

Everyone is really friendly amd willing to help each other out. Management was easy to approach and very accesible. They spent a lot of time on the floor helping out when the store would get busy.

    Cons

Rude entitled customers here and there but nothing we can't handle.
Training was rushed a little and most of it was online.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Most of the staff is very friendly and most of the stores are always clean. Training is provided and if you feel that you need more training in a certain area it is available if you ask.

    Cons

More training for supervisor level employees regarding FMLA practices and knowing when an employee may be elegable to recieve these benefits.

    Advice to Management

Please be more compassionate to staff that may be having personal issues. When I worked for this company I was trying to care for my terminally ill grandfather along with my chidlren. I became homeless and my car broke down, because of these circumstances I was not able to make it to work a few times and was terminated because of this. At the time I did not know I would be eligable for FMLA or any other leave of absense from the company. If a manager would have told me about this I would have been able to apply for the leave and I may still be an employee of Home Depot.
