I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great exposure to retail management practices. Follows basic "Big Box" format that can be applied to other jobs.

    Cons

Upper management had a "Cover your @$$ mentality". District Managers and above are extremely rude (Especially RVP) when they come in. Our store was profitable and well run, yet according to their attitudes we were lucky to be open. Also, when rumors that "Frank Blake has the jet" everyone in the district scrambles to put on their best face, when we preach that we do nothing different when he is scheduled to come in. Like many large, corporate companies, the policies in place get in the way of the people that work there, causing disgruntlement at times.

    Advice to Management

Treat everyone below you in a professional manner, not a "Fear for your job" attitude during visits.
