I have been working at The Home Depot (More than a year)

    Pros

The hours are flexible most of the time
The pay is good for beginners
The job can be good with pleasant customers
    Supervisors care

    Cons

Management doesn't care about family or your need to care for them nor do they truly care for your education. I was scheduled multiple times outside of my availability for school and even given 36 hour weeks in high school while taking very advanced level college classes so the stress load sucked. The management time also was unhappy with me when I received carbon monoxide poisoning from THEIR leaking propane tank. I had to show them my hospital documents multiple times showing them I was severely ill from it and I had to miss the next day at work because the doctor recommended 4 days off and I only took one just to not be an inconvenience to a poorly staffed store at the time.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The best reasons to work here are freedom to do what you want and how you want but that depends on your supervisor or manager.
You are allowed to take initiative.
You make great friends due to your ability to actually communicate and converse with each other.
The pros WILL depend on your position. You may not see pros at all.

    Cons

    1. Some micromanagers: Had to avoid working under and around those guys.
    2. The babying of customers: It is great to take care of the customer but don't allow the customers to treat your employees any kind of way.
    3. Other associates unwilling to help you: Many associates have the "oh that's not my department attitude even though they know how to do something"
    4. You may have to carry your whole department: The slackers get positions in your department and you have to deal with it.
    5. Pay increases are not fair: Period
    6. Managers awarding associates not fair: Maybe favoritism - somehow the same associates get all of the awards and recognition while others' work and performance is minimized.

    Advice to Management

Remove people from positions based on performance. Some people are able to stick around even though they do no work. Don't fire them but find a more suitable position for them.
Also, allow your employees to make their own decisions at least sometimes. Some managers do this. Some don't. Don't treat your employees like they're children or dumb.
