    Advice to Management

    Maintain Morale

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great place to learn. Good coworkers. Flexible hours for part timers. Overall good work atmosphere. Opportunity to try new things.

    Cons

Other retailers pay better, some pay MUCH better. If you are trying to make a living, it would be tough here. Particularly if you are part time in winter. Hours are scarce.

    Advice to Management

If you are serious about customer service, staff the store. If money is more important, as it appears to be, quit blaming the employees for poor service. They are stretched too thin.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The best reasons to work here are freedom to do what you want and how you want but that depends on your supervisor or manager.
You are allowed to take initiative.
You make great friends due to your ability to actually communicate and converse with each other.
The pros WILL depend on your position. You may not see pros at all.

    Cons

    1. Some micromanagers: Had to avoid working under and around those guys.
    2. The babying of customers: It is great to take care of the customer but don't allow the customers to treat your employees any kind of way.
    3. Other associates unwilling to help you: Many associates have the "oh that's not my department attitude even though they know how to do something"
    4. You may have to carry your whole department: The slackers get positions in your department and you have to deal with it.
    5. Pay increases are not fair: Period
    6. Managers awarding associates not fair: Maybe favoritism - somehow the same associates get all of the awards and recognition while others' work and performance is minimized.

    Advice to Management

Remove people from positions based on performance. Some people are able to stick around even though they do no work. Don't fire them but find a more suitable position for them.
Also, allow your employees to make their own decisions at least sometimes. Some managers do this. Some don't. Don't treat your employees like they're children or dumb.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good people within the HDE sales team

    Cons

1s and second level sales management is poor and seem me interested in filling out paperwork then training and motivating their sales teams. The pay is very poor for the last 6 months I earned $4600 in commissions but car expenses which are not reimbursed came to well over $9,000 using the IRS mileage allowance. There turnover was 5 people out of a total of 9 for the last 6 months. The top producers (2) will earn over $100,000 per year for an 80 hour week 6 days per week.

    Advice to Management

Get better management and don't rely on store management to fill the HDE managerial ranks. Pay for car expenses and provide a minimal base of at least $500 per week. (Like that will ever happen)

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Training, gained knowledge in different fields, advancement opportunities, choice of areas to work, management is available to talk to one-on-one about issues and there to help out when needed, the company has great opportunities to take care of the community and other employees

    Cons

Dealing with rude, angry, difficult customers, having to push credit cards on people varrying on position, massive number of people to answer to

    Advice to Management

Take the time to listen to those at the bottom and make sure to take care of the employees who work hard and really try. They tend to get burnt out and leaned on the most while those who slack off are left alone because it is easier to just go to the employees who always do everything.

    Pros

It was good in Paterson N.J.. In Jacksonville Florida store 6351 don't know what they doing.

    Cons

I moved to Florida got a pay cut and part time. My supervisor been with the company 2 yrs and has no clue what his job consist of. He like to micro manage. I've been with the company 2 yrs and I could do his job better.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to treat your associates and never hire a supervisor that never worked for the MET team. Hire within first. Experience goes along way when it comes to my job. My rating has to do with Florida not all Home Depot

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Not micro managed like many other positions would be.

    Cons

Poor communication. Expensive benefits like $115/wk for health insurance on a $23k salary. Frequently over worked. Customers with attitudes.

    Advice to Management

Focus on quality rather than volume.
