I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good 401k, below average time off (2 weeks for salary), success sharing, decent health benefits. Overall an interesting company and good to work for.

    Cons

Management does not encourage growth or change. Very reactive not proactive. Large gaps between departments and lack of communication creates disconnect.

    Advice to Management

THD should invest in management training seminars for managers.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work schedule M-F 5am-2pm. Annual profit sharing $$.

    Cons

Not enough Store associates scheduled for their departments, so MET is doing our job AND theirs. Conditions in older stores are filthy. 'It is what it is'.

    Advice to Management

Need to seriously clean older stores.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people you work with are great and very friendly willing to help each other. There are a few opportunities to move up in the company if your willing to take over an area that is struggling with sales.

    Cons

Management says they have your back but you better not trust them all some are good but allot feel threatened by someone that has prior leadership experience. I am retired military I started as a part time moved into a full time position then stepped back down to part time for family reasons and for that they dinged me on my performance review, Just watch your back mgt is not open to suggestions they run it there way which for the most part is not the Home Depot way.

    Advice to Management

Listen to some of your employees they have good ideas and besides there the ones that have built the rapport with your customers, most the assistant managers that I have worked with don't want to be bothered with customer complaints.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, flexible scheduling for part timers,

    Cons

Poor management, working on an outdated systems compared to other companies. Work hard get more work, do nothing get rewarded. Computer training is almost pointless, bring back on the floor training.

    Advice to Management

Respect your associates, Retail is stressful due to the nature of the beast, but don't add unneeded stress to those who are doing their best to give great customer service.

    Pros

    Cons

There is not enough people on the clock at once

    Advice to Management

More than one person on the clock per department at once would be nice

I have been working at The Home Depot (More than a year)

    Pros

The hours are flexible most of the time
The pay is good for beginners
The job can be good with pleasant customers
    Supervisors care

    Cons

Management doesn't care about family or your need to care for them nor do they truly care for your education. I was scheduled multiple times outside of my availability for school and even given 36 hour weeks in high school while taking very advanced level college classes so the stress load sucked. The management time also was unhappy with me when I received carbon monoxide poisoning from THEIR leaking propane tank. I had to show them my hospital documents multiple times showing them I was severely ill from it and I had to miss the next day at work because the doctor recommended 4 days off and I only took one just to not be an inconvenience to a poorly staffed store at the time.
