I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Being in college, this job offers the best benefits in regards to pay, benefits, and ease of scheduling. Started as a cashier and was promoted to Tool Rental.

    Cons

Tool Rental has a steep learning curve. There is a ton of information to learn. Must also be willing to work with customers and work in a fast paced environment. My store is also understaffed.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people and be more willing to promote to full time. My store has had a problem with keeping good people since it takes an act of congress to become full time. Also, cashiers and loaders are scarce.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are a few good points about HD in the community and overall its a good company for DIY however, they have a microscopy called HDE and that division needs improvement

    Cons

THE HDE component of HD is pulling this company's name down and it should be revamped

    Advice to Management

investigate all complaints from the customers who have been jilted by HDE- it's a reason you're losing talented sales people and productions staff.

    Pros

The Homer Fund, is an exceptional reason that you can/should be very proud being employed at Home Depot!

    Cons

Managers/supervisors were somewhat unhelpful/non understanding at moments during my employment at the paticular store that I worked at, at times.

    Advice to Management

    Be MORE understanding please!!!

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good environment for retail. Good people. Pleasant environment. Benefits aren't bad. If you work hard you have a chance of being rewarded. Management appreciates the hard work. Again, it is retail and when you sign up for the job one needs to understand the nature of the beast. So, for retail, there's few other places to work.

    Cons

It's retail. If you don't work hard, you go nowhere, if you work hard you can often be abused by being left with the workload. Chance of being acknowledged and awarded is random. Unless a customer goes out of their way to praise you, little may be said. Otherwise, one may feel ignored, while some people get awarded for picking a piece of toilet paper off of their backside because they actually did something. If you work hard, that's the standard and it's difficult to get anyway to give two shakes about you. If you do little, and then do something (relatively) exceptional, hurrah, here's a cookie.

    Advice to Management

    Stop tolerating laziness.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The store to always seem in order; everybody who worked there knew what every customer was looking for, in which aisle, and our associates knew that customers come FIRST!

    Cons

I can't really say anything referring to the "cons" because honestly, there weren't any... Every only one was so friendly... and easy to work with, I can not complain (other than raises lol)

    Advice to Management

Just to mind other associates own personal business; especially if the associate let things "confidential", be spread about, so unprofessional

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Building a good knowledge base for future careers. You get to learn many aspects of the company. This is a company that will teach you how to treat customers and become successful as a person.

    Cons

Moving up in this company is very difficult. It feels like you have to play politics to advance above a full time associate and department head and store management positions are out of reach for long time associates. Schedules are inconsistent it is hard to plan around what you work and feel rested.
Store management needs to hold department supervisors accountable for their actions not the associates.

    Advice to Management

Take pride in your long term associates. If you treat your people like they make a difference they will.
