I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Home Depot has great training and safety procedures. My co-workers are VERY diverse, and friendly. Strong team feeling and learning a lot from customers and ongoing training. Physical job, great exercise.

    Cons

They need to raise wages to compete. While there is lots of help available, some jobs may be too physical for some. Currently, the drug testing is still counting marijuana use. You will not be hired if this is positive.

    Advice to Management

Make sure stores are clear on what changes include - e.g. will scheduling be able to work around workers' hours when the time change comes, etc. Need to raise wages to compete. STOP testing for marijuana.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

This was a great company. It was extremely flexible with me being a college student, and was open to working around my schedule (even when it was not the most convenient for them), there is a lot of room to make more hours and the pay is great as well compared to other hardware/floral stores.

    Cons

It can be a very demanding job, at times you will have customers who are unhappy with a product, but most if not all customers are usually very understanding. Additionally, depending on what department you work in, you can definitely get very tired throughout the day (especially in the summer for gardening).

    Advice to Management

The management was pretty great, I don't really have any additional advice. They were great with scheduling for the most part, however they could do better in terms of scheduling late days before early days, for example five p.m. to ten p.m. on Thursday and then six a.m. to noon on Friday.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers were overall pleasant. Had some scheduling issues while in school, but they were always resolved before it became a problem.

    Cons

Supposed to attend company meetings at 6 AM on Saturdays when you aren't scheduled to work.

    Advice to Management

Overall it was a positive experience for me. However, there were some rumblings from other coworkers about treating the low man on the totem poll with less than optimal respect.

    Pros

Fast pace, flexible scheduling. You can learn as many areas as you want.Training is good and you can ask for more if needed.

    Cons

Management not able to see "big" picture of employees. Some of the worst behaving employees to customers were allowed to still have a job because the never called in sick. No employee discount and when employees do want to purchase its a nightmare and management is always looking to see if your "cheating" the company. Being green or good to the environment is non-existent. Managers would rather throw away merchandise that was sellable at a discount because they did want any mark-downs in their departments.

    Advice to Management

Employee discount, look at ways to recycle and be better for the environment.

    Pros

Decent pay, great co-workers, great store level management.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

You hire professionals, so let them do their jobs and stop micro-managing.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Can't hardly walk in the door without getting some kind of assistance or just a smile

    Cons

No discounts for employees. Customers get better deal than those that work there.

    Advice to Management

Need to have security on hand at all times. Too much theft. Need to try to hold on the employees that are loyal and hard workers, and pay them accordingly
