I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The other employees of Home Depot are good people and fun to work with.

    Cons

Can be long periods in your department without help or coverage.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good people to work with on sales floor and the stores beliefs as a whole are well intended. The core values of the company are good and they believe in taking care each other.

    Cons

Pay does not equal the amount of job responsibilities you have. The company implements changes without thinking them through all the way and then change them back.

    Pros

Friendly co-workers and management. Good training. Team-oriented atmosphere. Care about safety of employees. Good exercise. Good training.

    Cons

I found it really hard to move up even with a bachelors degree. Have to ask repeatedly to get proper training for certifications that can lead to promotions and higher wage.

    Pros

I really love the community connection and the feeling of empowerment I have when i come to work, and walk the store. I have always felt like the store was my other home and that I am the host of a big event. With this thought in my head, every customer is my guest and deserves to be treated as such.

    Cons

Company politics is the worst part of my job. I would just prefer to not be involved in things that don't have any bearing on real issues. Second, I would think we should be able to make a living wage in a company this successful, who cares about the welfare of its associates.

    Advice to Management

    stay moderate.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I've got a great manager, and a tight knit team. Couple that with a set schedule and weekends off, its pretty good.

    Cons

Pay seems like it could be higher for how valuable our performance and tasking is to the operation of the company.

    Advice to Management

It would be better if the company would focus more on employee retention. So much time and effort is put in to each new employee to help them complete tasking and increase product knowledge to better help the customer. The company never seems to fight to keep the good people around, has a "let 'em go" mentality.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Managers are understanding and have an open door policy that is actually effective. Co-workers are kind to each other. The environment is non-competitive. I never encountered anyone in management, corporate that was unkind to me.

    Cons

You are required to work 20 hours per week to be part time. As a student, that was very difficult for me and they couldn't accommodate my request to work only 15 hours a week.

    Pros

Pay was ok. Fellow employees seemed nice.

    Cons

Horrible management. Micro managed. I would get in trouble for not being fork lift certified, when they knew the training was being revamped and I couldn't get certified. I also got in trouble for flagging for a driver when it was required.

    Advice to Management

Train your people. Schedule enough people for the job.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great employee environment. Employees for the most part have the freedom to work on projects in the manner they see fit, very little micromanaging for being a retail environment.

    Cons

Miscommunication between the full and part time workers, the retail environment changes so quickly that the part time employees are often left out of the loop.
