I worked at The Home Depot full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Pay, benefits, some schedule flexibility. Newer building. Free Parking. Full appreciation of where the heart of the business is --- the stores. Lots of opportunities to take on more responsibilities/work, and gain experience.

    Cons

Very male dominated staff and leadership. Difficult for corporate personnel to wait 90 days for benefits -- based on standard retail practices.

    Advice to Management

Create opportunities for career growth for all roles and be aware of bullying environments.

    "Lead Generator"

    • Culture & Values
    Former Employee - Lead Generator

I worked at The Home Depot part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Flexible hours, autonomy, great people in all stores

    Cons

They messed up my wage (they were paying me 7.25/hour instead of 11/hour). With the way payroll is set up, it took months after I left for them to completely catch up with my pay. I eventually left because it was too much work just trying to hold payroll accountable and I couldn't live off the small wage I was making from their mess up.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Steady work that isn't challenging.

    Cons

There's no commission for lead generation, if I had made 1% of the sales I would have taken home an extra 15k a year which would have been huge

I worked at The Home Depot full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are honestly no pros from my experience with this company. I would definitely not recommend working here to anyone.

    Cons

Management does not have your back, terrible hours, customers are expected to be spoon fed and then can be allowed to treat you horribly, coworkers act like they are in high school, no room for advancement, company loves to play favorites, benefits are extremely expensive and are not worth the price you are paying, pay is always minimum wage and when you get your yearly raise there is no negotiating you are going to only...

    Advice to Management

Take some classes on how to be a manager. If you are training your associates on a policy then when they are enforcing it with a customer and have to call you because that customer is now angry, have their back. Don’t play favorites and don’t put people in leadership positions who can’t lead.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Benefits, ESPP, 401k plan, in house day care

    Cons

Management being deaf, dumb, blind and stupid about who really gets the work done. managers providing back stabbing references. Uses old-fashioned rack and stack system for annual review and raises. Rewards management better than employees who actually do the work. System allows mediocre employees a safe haven while hard working employees are overloaded. Too much of a good old boy network, you have to know...

    Advice to Management

Get rid of you inexperienced and ill prepared managers that just suck up to their bosses rather than finding out who really gets the work done. Your direct manager can stifle your career if they want to.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good pay, good benefits, good overall company values, lots of smart people to work alongside, great amenities, cafeteria on campus, opportunity to learn, emphasis on caring and taking care of retail stores

    Cons

Cutthroat IT leadership, employees are treated like bodies, political/dishonest leadership, high school "click" mentality, lack of flexibility on working remote, contractors treated like 2nd class citizens (I was full time, but I noticed bad contractor treatment), lack of transparency from leadership, old school product development practices, no place for original creativity, lack of path forward in career, outside folks...

    Advice to Management

Take more time to communicate honestly to your employees, stop acting like being in leadership makes you royalty, stop treating employees with a "resource/numbers" mentality, stop playing the political chess games, work together with other leaders... you should all be on the same team, promote your employees who are giving it their all, be more flexible on working hours
