I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of chances to change departments, benefits, the ability to transfer to any store in the U.S, plenty of resources to help yourself grow in the company

    Cons

In the New England area, at least in Maine, it can be pretty slow after the holiday season until spring

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Love my customers, enjoy my coworkers. I believe you are responsible for your happiness, you get out it what you put into it.

    Cons

    Computer scheduling is a joke.

    Advice to Management

I believe upper management needs to say Thank you, or Job Well Done a bit more to their employees. We need to know we are appreciated with eye contact. A picnic or sub platter doesnt cut it for me.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Stock purchase plan 401k Employee discounts and coworkers now friends that have left company as myself!

    Cons

No discounts, small pay increases each year due to management bonuses, poor management skills, favorites that can do no wrong given Homers Awards constantly when others deserve them, pit employees again each other, mircomanagement by ASMs from manager, do not follow SOP correctly, certain department supervisors do nothing and brag about it, employees on cell phones texting ignoring customers and the list goes on. THD brags about all their energy savings but employees and customers suffer with extreme heat in stores as they think it is okay not to cool store properly. Bottom line do not make a career at THD!

    Advice to Management

Cooler stores in summer, treat each and every employee at the same level not by job title or if a favorite of management, more Homer Awards given out, no personal cell phones as you have store phone, higher pay increases,

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Flexible hours for part timers.
    Decent insurance.
    Useful benefits.

    Cons

    Terrible wages.
Insultingly small wage increases--based on starting wage, so floor associates take forever to reach a decent rate. Largest wage increases come only in reaction to competitors.

    Advice to Management

Live your values, and pay your people something close to what they are worth.

Former Employee - Inventory Associate Department Head in Old Orchard Beach, ME

I worked at The Home Depot (More than a year)

    Pros

Willing to promote from within Constant training and review programs Most associates are willing to assist and help a person reach most of the goals needed to succeed

    Cons

Upper management has lost site of the average associate and their need to feel a part of a team The pay scale is very unfair

I have been working at The Home Depot (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Empowering company - Good benefits - Good opportunities for advancement. Generally good folks to work with. Fun, fast paced environment most of the time.

    Cons

It seems that sales goals can outweigh customer service making it difficult to actually focus on taking care of customer needs. Management often is simply responding to Corporate directives.

    Advice to Management

Generally associates are interested in meeting the customer's needs. When goals are the focus instead of relationships, no matter what is said, customer service is affected.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Decent salary and benefits although I only work there part time and currently not needing the benefits

    Cons

Customer relationships are very important but mgmt. does not stand behind company policy nor stand behind their employees when trying to uphold company policy and give customers whatever they want just to make every customer happy despite the circumstance. They also do not address real issues and fix but bandaid and pretend most of the time problems do not exist.

    Advice to Management

Lead by example...all the training and speeches in the world to not mean anything w/out mgmt. practicing what they preach
