I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very lenient on scheduling if you have an outside life, great people to work with (for the most part) and overall very educational.

    Cons

Mostly just customers that swear they work at home depot and know more than us, I deal with that stupidity all the time and it gets irritating.

    Advice to Management

Nothing really, my managers are great.

    Pros

They hire anyone with a pulse

    Cons

pay is very low; work load is immense; you're micromanaged by 4 different managers at once; treated like slave labor- you're just a number; store is poorly organized- confusing for the customers as much as the employee. Favoritism also does exist...sadly

    Advice to Management

Run your stores as you would your own business- or if you think that youre already doing that- maybe you should be pulled from this position and given a job that requires nothing more than lifting a box and putting it down. Don't micromanage people. Especially knowing that their pay is equivalent to a modern day slave labor rate. INCREASE pay to market values and rates ( chik-fila starting is $17/hr, Lowes starting is $14/hr, part time bank teller is $15/hr...) I can go on and on. Lift the moral by executing a proper organization within the store. each aisle should be numbered and identified correctly in order. Day workers should be working. Majority of night crews work is doing day shifts priorities. Create respect for the employee and youll receive respect and loyalty as a manager. Managers should know why they are working there. They should know why their job descriptions are essential to day to day business. They should always seek opinions among the workers and when calling a meeting...ALWAYS. BE. THE. LAST. TO. SPEAK. Thats how you show leadership- this is how you create respect and function within an organization. Being the guy that talks behind the employees backs while giving them a face of assurance isn't what you are there to do as a manager. Showing concern and encouraging individuals daily without holding negative feelings towards them- thats how you show leadership- and furthermore, a leader leads by example. You want people to do what you expect them to do- you must first do it yourself.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

401K Plan, Matching after 1 year of service, 3.5% max matching for 5% contribution. Paid parental and/or maternal leave. Starting rate is 11$ an hour. Multiple medical, dental. vision benefits. Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 15% off. Free food on holidays, holiday pay, Christmas and Thanksgiving off. The schedules are made 3 weeks in advance, can accrue sick time each month, and vacation after certain amount of years, 1=1week, 2 years=2 week, 5 years=3 week, 15 years=4 weeks, 20 years=5 weeks. Open door policy with associates and managers, managers usually side with associates, tuition reimbursement and annual raises. It's a good career choice if you only have a high school diploma.

    Cons

As a cashier, promoting the credit card is unnecessary but they're not to strict about getting certain quotas per cashier. Part Time hours can vary from 13 hours one week to 27 hours the next week, which doesn't help with being able to predict my paycheck. but Full Timers have a set schedule.
