I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The co-workers are mostly supportive of your success
    Decent benefits such as 401k's
    A good starter job
learn a lot of things about painting, staining, electrical, saws, tools, and hardware

    Cons

some people are irresponsible and don't do their jobs
Department supervisors are lazy in some departments
They will have a lift license and then leave expecting a non-lift licensed associate to find someone to lift a pallet on the floor
Pay raises are applied so that everyone get's the same wages normally
have to negoitate in the interview for the wage you want only time they will listen
female employees often get harrassed by male dh's made to cry in some cases
watch your back always all I can say
if your a cashier find a switch buddy it will help you in the long run

    Advice to Management

Take associate complaints seriously and don't sit around in your office when it is a bust work day and your needed on the floor. Have interviews with the associates int he store when doing your walks in the stores. Stop thinking that everything is under control, because it is not. Many department supervisors are not deserving of their jobs when they treat women with disrespect and wander around their store not being in the department when they are needed to be.

    Pros

Can pick the hours you want to work.
Most of the time the work is easy.
    Low stress and laidback.
Co workers are nice and helpful.
    Easy hiring process.
The managers are patient and helpful.

    Cons

Part time work pays $12.00 per hour. No benefits or employee discount.
Product training is poor. You have to learn on your own.
The store is understaffed, at times you can be swamped with customers.
The scheduling makes no sense. 12 hours one week. 20 plus hours the next week.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good pay. Cashiers start at $12/hr. Floor associates make more. Guaranteed raises every year if you are a good emplyee, bonuses, fun food events, you will make great friends, good family culture, consistent schedule, flexible hours, excellent benefits and job security, promote from within, no college degree required, on the job training, quick advancement, never boring, versatile job duties, stores are large so you get your exercuse in for the day. Seniors are encouraged to apply.

    Cons

In my experience I've found: Rude demanding customers, cluttered aisles, customers being allowed to place sharp oversized items such as steel pipe and sharp metal rods that could easily injure someone in their shopping carts instead of using the proper large items carts that are available but too lazy to walk to the other end of the store to get one thus creating scary working conditions for employees and other shoppers. And if by chance you get hurt on the job, the company basically disowns you. High turnover in management especially. Managers are constantly being fired. Gossip filled work environment.

    Advice to Management

Stop worrying about recieving a customer complaint on the VOC and screwing up your metrics and start backing up your employees. The customer is not always right. In fact, they are rarely right and mostly just looking for a discount any way they can.

    Pros

Can Exercise on Job, Customer/Employee interaction, Wide range of shift options, Friendly Coworkers, decent pay

    Cons

No talk of raises, require lift certifications for certain positions, management slow to fix problems, scheduling errors, poor work/home flexibility, poor school/work flexibility

    Advice to Management

Work around student schedules more often. When certain days are requested months in advance, honor them. Be the good role models for employees to follow.
