I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I loved my coworkers, they are all very kind and helpful. There is always activities and food being brought in on special occasions and holidays due to a fun fund. There are bonuses two times per year.

    Cons

My store could either be really busy or really slow all the time.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you prove yourself a competent employee, they are willing to help you out. They let me switch between full time and part time for college.
    They're pretty flexible with scheduling.
Great people to work with. They provide associate appreciation via holifau psrties, barbeques, etc. Monetary would be preferred though.

    Cons

Not the best pay, hard to get a decent raise. Obviously due to the nature of the job, a lot of receptive work e.g. stocking shelves. If you are a hard worker, you're going to do some running around for other departments because customer demand is pretty high here.

    Pros

    Good starting wage fun environment

    Cons

Wage does not increase with hard work

    Advice to Management

Pay people who work hard more than those who don't; reward hard work

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time

    Pros

Fellow employees are mostly very nice and helpful -- easy to work with. Positive corporate culture.

    Cons

The schedule just seems random, especially for new employees. One day noon-9, then in the next morning @8am, then following day noon-9. No work/life balance. I have no problem with 40+ hours and working weekends, just feel like I'm getting jerked around sometimes.

    Advice to Management

Bring some rational order to the schedule. There's a lot of online training, but then you are on your own when you step away from the computer. Need more hands on involvement.

I worked at The Home Depot (More than a year)

    Pros

Very fast paced environment, friendly coworkers and good sense of community, flexible scheduling, never boring

    Cons

All the normal negatives that come with working in retail...rude customers and apathetic/incompetent management, long hours, constantly on your feet

    Advice to Management

nothing you can do will change anything, this is just kind of how retail is. listen to your employees concerns more

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - F/T offers full benefits package including stock purchase plan, health, dental, 401k
    - Willingness to think while you sweat is rewarded with opportunities to take on new tasks
    - Constantly hiring especially before holidays and in spring
    - Fast paced, dynamic day if you make it that way

    Cons

    - F/T requires full-flex scheduling which can be difficult to schedule life around
    - Always more work to do than can be done with resources and time allotted

    Advice to Management

    - Re-emphasize training on business procedures so staff knows why they're being asked to do things

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The training is professional especially compared to Lowes, where they basically threw me out on the floor with very little knowledge. I am a new associate, but so far what I see is a first class operation, considering my experience with Lowes. On the yearly performance reviews, there is a section that discusses your eligibility/suitability for promotion. I think that if you perform well, and you are eligible for promotion on your review, it makes it harder for the management to pass you over for "favorites" who don't perform as well.

    Cons

Pay was a bit low compared to the major competitor (my previous employer ) but if you enjoy home improvement and are deciding which of the big 2 to work for, personally I feel that sacrificing a few dollars for a better work environment is worth it.

    Advice to Management

From the perspective of the customer, I see THD as staying on top of the pack because you empower the staff to really deliver top notch customer service. If management delivers adequate staffing and continues to value the front line associates, for me, I will continue to be a 5 star representative of THD to the customer.

    Pros

    Decent benefits
Staff/Coworkers are all very friendly to one another

    Cons

Pay is severely lacking for jobs that deserve more than they get
You only get one raise every year, and the highest you can get is 40 cents

    Advice to Management

Pay the lot attendants more money

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent start out pay, good training opportunities, friendly and supportive coworkers, good enough benefit options, earned paid time off, flexible scheduling.

    Cons

Pay could have been higher considering amount and type of responsibilities required. The expected sales quota was a little on the high side, especially during the holiday seasons..

    Advice to Management

Upper management should be more flexible with their expectations of specialty departments. It can be extremely challenging to meet an expected sales quota when specialists are pulled from their positions to assist and/or cover in full in other departments.
