I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working in a very fast-paced enviroment, The ability to learn from the contractors and them taking pride in their craft, willing to answer my questions on what an item is for. My favorites are the D.I.Y's and them gaining the courage to build or re-purpose their crafts and projects.

    Cons

Scheduling of our associates, lack of coordination and planning. Our customers should be and are my main objective day in and day out. Time is money, these guys and girls need to get back on their job sites. Not standing around waiting on any available loading assistance or at the Pro Desk and especially in the checkout lines from shortages of cashiers from scheduling gaps or poor customer service from them or associates in designated departments.

    Advice to Management

Have a person to look over work schedules and look for gaps in coverage and gather genuine feedback from your employees, the moral here sucks. I love working here but retaining workers who has solid work ethics are hard to find.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fun group of people to work with.

    Cons

Impossible to make a living if you're not full time and salaried.

    Advice to Management

I worked there for three months. What they do is hire you for their "peak demand season', which is Spring and the beginning of Summer, and during this time they generally give you 30 plus hours each week. Then, when the peak passes, they basically force you to quit by cutting your hours down so low [less than fifteen hours per week] you can no longer make a living. If you ask for more hours, they flat out lie to you about moving you to another department where you can work more, but they never actually do . They want you to quit as opposed to firing you so they don't have to pay unemployment! If you actually need to make a living, don't go near that place!!

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get to meet some incredible people. Some of the managers and coworkers are great. They do special things for the employees especially during holidays like have food, chili cook offs and they do community service.

    Cons

The salary is terrible, the shifts can make life/work balance challenging. Don't have solid training procedures. Lots of low morale though there are some employees who truly seem to like working there. Some cliques which can make working here uncomfortable. It has not been a good fit for me.

    Advice to Management

Make sure your supervisors are actually supervising and working, not using their "title" to just hang out talking to their friends. Salary truly needs improvement especially if you are expecting your employees to provide the quality customer service that customers deserve.
