I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you know the right people your golden. Starting pay is fair.. below average. Its a great place to work for the first year. You can move up to management if you apply yourself (try hard) for about 3 years.

    Cons

If you dont know the right people you will get screwed daily. THIS PLACE IS ALL ABOUT POLITICS. the pay basically tops out after your first year, after that u get about $0.30-$0.50 a year raise. They have a department they send you to if you slack off or have any kind of issues with management, Its called fluid, all you do here is through boxes for 10 hours. THEY DO DISCRIMINATE! check the lawsuits against them.

    Advice to Management

Don't discriminate! Reward hard workers with something other than Homer bucks.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Home Depot is a great company to work for. There is room for growth/advancement (in certain buildings more than others).

    Cons

Work life balance continues to be an opportunity for the leadership team. Great for associates when it comes to OT. Also, active development of talent is lacking.

    Advice to Management

Develop your talent and weed out the leaders that don't put in the work.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Plenty of overtime, which is now being more than forced on employees. Constantly checking to see what your going to do on your days off which is none of their business!

    Cons

Advancement from within the company is pretty much getting harder than anything. Only if you kiss major you know what within upper management is the way to go.

    Advice to Management

Try to promote more from within than constant external candidates that wont last over a year!
