I have been working at The Home Depot part-time

    Pros

Laid back co workers, Active workplace, Better than minimum wage starting pay, They hire special needs individuals (pro and con)

    Cons

Rude customers, Management isn't always on the same page, Working weekends is "non negotiable" . I love that they hire special needs individuals but sometimes they don't perform their job so you are left to pick up the slack.

    Advice to Management

Communication between and in departments needs some help, maybe make it a requirement that every associate has a walkie talkie and every department has a channel on said walkie talkies.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

401k, stock purchase program, tuition reimbursement.

    Cons

More responsibility coming our way. No foreseeable pay increases. But hey that's corporate America, right?

    Advice to Management

Find another way to save a penny rather than putting the squeeze on your employees. Get ready for A LOT of turnover in the next year.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

For a retail job, the place offers a bit more in terms of daily responsibilities and customer interactions. Big focus on customer service, and the corporate structure provides many benefits.

    Cons

Scheduling is not always consistent, sometimes you may feel the need to lie about your availability just to make sure you get decent shifts.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and stock options for shares that continue to increase, working with customers from all walks of life, opportunities for moving up if you can follow the program, fixed schedules for most. I was fortunate to have great managers that taught me a better way to look at my career. I feel I am leaving the company stronger and more professional than when I first started.

    Cons

Don't give your time to other associates who get involved with wrong attitudes or motives. It's important to balance loving what you do and being responsible to your family. That's an employees choice, not the employer.

    Advice to Management

Always be fair, continue providing leadership, be an example.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Easy if you want it to be. The management is very personable. Management does seem to care about their employees.

    Cons

If your a hard worker , you will be taken advantaged of. Promotion based off of social status within culture of company.

    Advice to Management

Use HRs to determine who gets advanced, not managers without any metric to evaluate. Rotate your people more often so they don't get entrenched in a single position.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

good environment to work in . Lots of activity lots of customer interaction providing a fast paced
work day helping customers and satisfying their needs.

    Cons

poor pay, understaffed, bad hours, high expectations from management with little support, over worked with little regard for your safety and well being.

    Advice to Management

Add more fulltime better qualified employees with experience in the depts. hired into. Part timers with no knowledge or experience do little to help the customers confidence in getting satisfied when shopping at THD.
