I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Relaxed environment, friendly coworkers, and good tips depending on season

    Cons

Management and Department Supervisors do not care about employees at all
    Associates don't really work much
If your young, or a college student you will be asked to take care of loading customers carts and cars most of the time, even if item is not in your department
Once you go and help customers or associates in department that your not in, managers get very upset and disrespectful
Part timers get 0-8 hours of work a week off season and 20-30 during season

    Advice to Management

Show some respect to your hardworking employees

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Home Depot is amazingly efficient when it comes to merchandising standards and putting systems in order to streamline processes. You can learn a lot about retail, and the regular co-workers are usually pretty amicable.

    Cons

Upper and Mid-Level Management: Politics, number-crunching, paper-pushing, with no want for accountability.

Human Resources: Local HR associates are often the mouthpiece for management. Corporate HR reps are of little help as well.

The corrupt actions of managers and HR reps I had witnessed over the course of five years was heinous. Some were terminated shortly after I had left the company. Sadly, some of the worst offenders are still there.

This company will run you into the ground if you actually care about the work that you do. It rewards those that "delegate" the most efficiently, while perched from their coffee clutch, shooting the breeze with their cronies.

    Advice to Management

Support those that actually care about their job performance. Eliminate obstacles, don't create them. Have realistic expectations about how much work can be done in one day. Be more human.
