I worked at The Home Depot (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Advancement opportunity. Excellent benefits. Relaxed dress code.I I like wearing sneakers to work as my feet don't take well to tight shoes.

    Cons

Dusty with sawdust, concrete mixes, and fertilizers. The cement floors are rough on the feet. With the huge turnover of merchandise and seasonal items, it is difficult to find space in the overheads to store overstock.

    Advice to Management

really look into making home depot better for the part timers because for the hours and money its sad and a joke

I have been working at The Home Depot as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours, no one looking over your back, laid back environment.

    Cons

Unclear instructions, inconsistent hours, unannounced layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Be honest to your employees and put their wellfare in front of your personal bonus.

    Pros

Good benefits and work life balance, learn a lot about a specific subject area based on which department you are assigned to.

    Cons

Can be monotonous, a lot of time on your feet, management tries to cut costs by not fully staffing departments, aggravating customers who can't find someone to help them, and employees who are overburdened by being expected to keep shelves stocked and organized, while helping all customers.

    Advice to Management

I know it's a big company with a lot of employees, but management needs to focus on telling employees what they are doing well, how they can improve, and how to advance.
