I worked at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours for working students. You're entitled with the ability to offer a very generous discount to keep a customer happy. Like most retail they will expect you to push credit but they were very lenient and won't write you up if you don't meet goals. Fun company parties and employee appreciation (catered lunches or breakfasts, raffles with prizes including tvs, xbox ones, spa certificates, gift cards, etc)

    Cons

Few full time positions (if any) were offered. With the exception of Garden and the interior design desk, MALE employees are MUCH more frequently seen than females in departments and management positions. Female employees are usually always cashiers and returns or service desk. Female employees rarely get promoted or encouraged to apply for department positions.

    Advice to Management

Encourage and consider qualified female employees just as much as the male employees for department and management opportunities.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working in a very fast-paced enviroment, The ability to learn from the contractors and them taking pride in their craft, willing to answer my questions on what an item is for. My favorites are the D.I.Y's and them gaining the courage to build or re-purpose their crafts and projects.

    Cons

Scheduling of our associates, lack of coordination and planning. Our customers should be and are my main objective day in and day out. Time is money, these guys and girls need to get back on their job sites. Not standing around waiting on any available loading assistance or at the Pro Desk and especially in the checkout lines from shortages of cashiers from scheduling gaps or poor customer service from them or associates in designated departments.

    Advice to Management

Have a person to look over work schedules and look for gaps in coverage and gather genuine feedback from your employees, the moral here sucks. I love working here but retaining workers who has solid work ethics are hard to find.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Many of the Cashiers they hired were High Schoolers including myself at the time. The pay is much better than any other similar job and the hours are very very flexible! I was able to get consistent hours each week that worked well with my school schedule. Although I never used it, they seemed to have a great benefits package that even part-timers could utilize.

    Cons

There were no real incentives to move up. Head Cashiers were barely paid more than regular cashiers yet their duties and responsibility doubled. Many store managers push to cross-train people into multiple departments but even if you know each department fully, there's little to no rewards.

    Advice to Management

Give more incentives to want to improve and grow

    Pros

many good people to work with

    Cons

low pay, no discounts, must push credit cards, no real hope of advancement for many years, negotiated health care that you pay for that takes up much of the check every pay period, micro managed from the main offices in Georgia

    Advice to Management

We all work very hard to make the corporation rich. I spend most of my time within your walls keeping up great standards. Pay us what we need to live and maintain our lives and dignities
