I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The atmosphere is amazing, all of the supervisors and managers only wanted what was best for their teams. There was a genuine sense of care and pride in working for the company.

    Cons

As with all big companies there are happenstances where sometimes information is not passed down in a timely manner to be effective for associates.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work,

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Open availability, coworkers are generally nice, Vison & Dental plan is amazing! They give sick time & vacation (when you're for a certain amount of time). They also give time & a half on holidays when you've been there long enough. Overall, It's not a terrible place, just being there for over 2 years, you lose the patience for all the bs.

    Cons

Hours are wishy washy, Sometimes you'll get 29 hrs a wk and the suddenly 15 hrs. managements isnt that great.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees instead of always trying to please an entitled rude customer

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Hands on work. Always keeping busy and never a dull moment. Loved the work, but needed more resources, ie more managers to divide up the work.

    Cons

60+ hours a week. My life was Home Depot. Personal and family time was limited.

    Advice to Management

Develop and train your associates, don't just hold them accountable to results.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Incredibly flexible scheduling
Most people are in a good mood
Your input is taken into account

    Cons

It is hard to move around (departments) if you're under 18
When a bad employee does come in management is hesitant to do anything and corp. wont help

    Advice to Management

Take care of bad associates before they hurt the whole store.

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting your friends when they don't have the best qualifications.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Hiring process was very easy, and the training materials available are great. Lots of videos and on-going updates for all job classes. The message that comes from the top is excellent and believable.

    Cons

The pay was just above minimum wage and there are no employee discounts or local purchasing incentives. Store level management was very unresponsive to employees and not customer driven. Corporate visits and personal incentives seemed to be the motivating force. Very unfortunate because the message from corporate seemed to be very caring and rewarding. I am a shareholder who was excited to work at my favorite place on the entire planet. After a year of employment, I have considered selling my shares.

    Advice to Management

The company's core values and mission is excellent. Try to find ways to bring that to your employees and they will amaze you with their performance. I want to love this company again, please TRY harder!

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great coworkers, easy job. It's hard to get fired for attendance as they are pretty lenient. No previous skills needed to get hired. Pass a drug test, have a heart beat, and speak English- you are hired.

    Cons

Management has favorites, but that's not unusual in retail. Even if you do your job and are good at it, if you aren't liked any full time position will go to someone less qualified. Management hires a lot of young people but from my personal experience if you are female and under 25, you aren't going to get anywhere in the company. That may just have just been how things are at my store though.

    Advice to Management

Give full time to the people who have been with the company the longest and who are the most qualified.

    Gaining experience in customer service.

    Cons

Very unprofessional management, higher employees and new employees. Think of high school in a sense.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good Benefits and good customer base. No customer service, people shop there because they have what they need

    Cons

As long as your shirt has a collar you can look like a homeless person and still work there. Some employees are almost hostile to other employees.

    Advice to Management

Merit Badges "Homer Awards" are an insult to associates that work hard. If you can't eat it or spend it it's worthless. HD has employees so brainwashed that they think the $25 they get from so many Homers will change their lives. Just like working for the government, hard work goes unnoticed.
