I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Manager incentive program. Opportunity for advancement. Great benefits. Good training program. Many different types of jobs. Excellent CEO and upper level staff. The company goes above and beyond to provide for associates.

    Cons

Seniority is weighted unofficially by some in upper level management. Corporate employees need to spend more time in stores to see how things actually operate on a day to day basis. Inconsistent scheduling.

    Advice to Management

More time spent in stores by SSC employees. More SSC employees reaching out to store side for feedback and advice before rolling out programs. Consistent scheduling or consistent days off for salaried ASM's. I know we get paid very well to have crazy schedules, but SM's & DM's get paid better and have consistent scheduling. It would be better for our health and well being.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company is based on a strict hierarchy that causes management to have their hands tied. Because of this, just as long as you come to work and do the dull work of straightening shelves, facing, putting returns away and helping customers, they will never bother you.

    Cons

Low pay, hours change wildly, feedback is not accepted (though they make it seem like it is don't be fooled), stagnant wages, no opportunity to grow, run like a fieftom by management.

    Advice to Management

pay more, make static schedules, give benefits

    Advice to Management

They are good if you are nice to them and you just let them. Be just be on time every day do your job

Former Employee - Sale Associate in Portland, OR

    Pros

Great sense of teamwork, adequate training, flexible hours. Loved the opportunity to problem-solve a customer's project and deliver a satisfying overcome.

    Cons

Often bureaucratic. Front line managers lack the ability to hire, set hours or pay. Some staff hired without regard to their ability to perform the tasks correctly. High turnover among largely part-time staff.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in your employees; pay them a living wage with more full time work and you will see productivity and profits soar. Be more like Costco and less like Walmart.
