I have been working at The Home Depot (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent lower management, but not upper store management

    Cons

Part timers promised certain amount of hours when hired are now being gypped, advancement done by favoritism, not by experience or by knowledge.

    Advice to Management

Give part timers decent hours again and do not demand the same amount of work even though the hours given part timers have been cut.

I worked at The Home Depot (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great ways I was able to find ways to get people thinking how to be creative and handle quest..

    Cons

Interruption of certain career path management staff to try and make you drop helping a customer to do their bidding.

    Advice to Management

Teach the training managers better people skills, # 1. I have heard the same thing in many other stores.

I worked at The Home Depot (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Many of the people I worked with were nice, including some management.

    Cons

They would not give me full-time hours no matter what. And the scheduling was always all over the place, so you could not have any kind of work routine.

    Advice to Management

Your workers need to earn a living.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I enjoy interacting with the customers and fellow colleagues.

    Cons

The software used to make the schedules is trouble. Many incompetent people in management. The store where I work is poorly organized, dirty, and can never find things in a timely manner for the customer. To many people lie on each other just to get ahead. Company culture lacks trust in it's employees. Management walks around like they are plantation overseers, and think they own you.

    Advice to Management

You need to treat your employees better, fair the person who thought about buying scheduling software, compensate people according to there skill level, get rid of training material-obsolete.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Company that's not going anywhere. Industry leader in a sector that's not getting killed by the internet, yet. Smart upper management that's not complacent and very aware of opportunities for growth, improvement and vulnerabilities. In the stores, there are many great people who really want to work.

    Cons

Very policy and procedure heavy though company is aware, responsive and looking to improve and streamline. Upper-mid field management (district+) feels top heavy and out of touch and subjective. Culture war internally between the old - what the company used to be, and the new - what it needs to be in order to remain competitive and successful in todays retail marketplace.
