I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Kind & Personable Management & staff, ability to work independently or as team, quiet work environment, great physical and mental exercise, potential for advancement if desired, safety focused

    Cons

If someone has negative feedback...I suggest the job may not be a good fit for them!

    Advice to Management

Lead by example. Earn the respect deserved as management by being personally accountable for your teams actions-never casting blame or shame on your associates to spare yourself, take the high road and communicate openly and honestly. Set and maintain clear boundaries, policies and performance expectations. Always look for ways to encourage, reward and motivate your team. Try to take mental notice of associates who do follow policies, SOP, and ask questions...they should be the ones you want to retain and be proud of, they will help you succeed as a manager and represent your management abilities.

    Pros

Good people to work with and plenty of work to keep busy.

    Cons

It's retail so expect to be working evenings and weekends at a low wage plus there won't be enough staff for the number of customers.

    Pros

Friendly staff and co-workers. Everyone works as a team. Schedule is put out 3 weeks in advance so you can plan your life around work. If you are a part-timer you work a minimum of 20 hours a week and can work up to 27 hours a week, depending on store needs.

    Cons

Have to work for company 6 months before applying for full-time work.

    Advice to Management

Try to hire more full time people and pay commissions to people who are required to sell appliances and flooring.

    Pros

The associates and customers are lovely people and a joy to see every day.

    Cons

At our store all the associates in my department left and I still am on the closing shift. When we were assigned the shifts I was told that when someone left you would be offered their shift. 3 people left and management said they are not opening any of the shifts.

    Advice to Management

    Stop lying to your employees!
