I worked at The Home Depot part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Enjoyed helping customers with their projects.

    Cons

Management will manipulate write ups if the associate disagrees with their cult like values. They say open door policy but it is open to their way of thinking. I disagree with all the lying that takes place there.

    Advice to Management

Stop lying and get a reality check!

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I do like most of the 150 employees.

    Cons

    Unless you kiss butt
you aren't advancing. I've trained people that are making more than me. I have also trained people that became my boss, how do you justify not promoting someone that has been doing the job they are promoting for, for 1 1/2 years. They are trying to make it a part- time employee business.

    Advice to Management

Stop the favoritism hire and promote the best! All the employees can see thru your b.s. set a standard for management why is it that me a low tier employee can do a simple function like a key rec, but no asm knows how to do that. Hey C.E.O. your company needs the little people you need to make asm's dh's and sm's more accountable. It seems the more they promote the more useless they become. Id love to see a sm throw my freight for a week, they couldn't hack it.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good customers, have help many. They were always happy for the help. Several always search for me and went passed many to speak with me.

    Cons

Associates tend to turn away from customers with questions or give wrong information about products.
The management style is what can you do for me, if you want to keep your job.
Employes act as they were still in high school in their clicks and tend not to help others.
Too many associates related to upper management. Many of the wives of store managers see themselves as above all the others in the store. Take to many freedoms that if I had done this I would have been fired. They are to busy in the gossip than helping customers.

    Advice to Management

Store Manager needs to stop calling male employes brother, very unprofessional.

    Pros

Fun environment. The people are friendly and down to earth. The job is easy and challenging at the same time. There was always room for learning new things. Management were very fair and consistent. Working there was like working with your family. The scheduling was very fair (almost too) and all of the management supported associates continuing their education.

    Cons

There were opportunities for better training before sending new associates to the sales floor. Some of the operational processes were unnecessary and time consuming. There were reports for reports for reports.... if you get my drift. The computer system was slowly being upgraded, but needed better technology sooner that could increase productivity and reduce down time.

    Advice to Management

As a former member of management I would say that there was always an opportunity to increase the communication of new information and training.
