I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

401K for Full time employees, Only. Decent healthcare plan at face value , although I never had the opportunity to acctually use ANY of my benefits. Because taking time off is like pulling the store manager' teeth. Mostly good people are the employees. There is a kind of camradare between the employees who realize that they are doing way too much for the pay that they wete offered.

    Cons

Cronyism. Rampant at the store level.
Also, If you do a great job you are not rewarded. If a problem arrises from the lak of managerial support, you Will be written up. This happens even if and when you request support from the management team, they do not know how to show you how to correctly use their system (because they don't know). You will be written up.
    Gotta get you on paper.
    Cronyism
    Nepotism.
    Lack of training.
Forced into different departments. As managemen sees fit. Again, lack of training and/or support. Zero Support.
One more thing, Zero support from management or fellow employees.
    Did i mention Zero support.
The onlt time you will interact with management is if They need help or you are in some kind of trouble that you couldn't get support for.
    Its a crap shoot.
The home depot does not promote long term employment.
Most every one whom i worked with kept a resume current and handy, as there is no sense of fostering a long term employee.
What can we catch you doing wrong, not right.
    Enough said.

    Advice to Management

Reward employees for bringing business to your store. Its all about the bottom line, right?
How about greet the people who work for you with a simple good morning or good aftrnoon.
Courtesy cost nothing and fosters a team environment. You most often will be faking it, anyway.
Treat your employees with the respect, dignity, and courtesy that you expect.
With this advice I am still trying to make a more bearable and profitable business mix. My time is done, but still trying to help. Think about that and thank you.

    Cons

The company is managed by blunt force. Backward ideas. Cheap, cheasy and really does not care a bit about associates.

    Advice to Management

A wake up call is coming. Keep up the cheesy pay and bad management and a UNION will help you figure things out.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Competitive pay and good benefits. Set schedule is relatively unheard of in the retail industry. Co-workers and employees genuinely enjoy what they do.

    Cons

Working overnight can be very difficult on the work/life balance. Shifts are long and you will work a MINIMUM of 50 hours per week. Unfortunately responsibilities do not end when your shift does and you are forced to take on many daytime responsibilities when you should be with your family or sleeping. Each district is run differently and has leaders of vastly varying experience. The relationship you have with your day teams and their respective levels of experience can make or break you from a project execution standpoint.

    Advice to Management

The MET Sup positions should ultimately be responsible for their own locations. Having multiple traveling teams I noticed a huge disparity between their performance and overall handling of the job.
