I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

One of the pros is the people. The store I work at we are all like a family. We share success and failures, along with growing as an individual and as a team. My store takes part in Team Depot and we give back to the community. The company not only pays for all the supplies needed, they also pay us for the hours we do the community service. It's pretty neat. There are so many opportunities to grow within the company and they have tons of ways to incentivize and motivate workers. Management is great at my store and district. I've learned so many useful skills that I have already started applying in my home life. The company has core values that can't be beat, especially for me. I am an Eagle Scout and good core values are at the top of my list. The customer comes first and I like that about the Company

    Cons

I can't actually think of any downsides to the company except for some operational and technical problems that all stores have, but it's nothing major.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. I have no intention of leaving the company for a long, long time. I've been with Home Depot for 13 months and during that time, you've found a lifelong dedicated associate in me.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Part time work, plenty of hours available. Morgan Hill store highest sales. Meeting and exceeding goals meant profit sharing. Every employee gets a bonus if store does well.

    Cons

Hours are not flexible. If you need to take off a day for a funeral, you have to find a replacement, HR does not find a person to fill the day you take off. If you do not find a replacement it is counted against you. Even if you have plenty of notice. The hours cut into your sleep. Work you until midnight, then have you come in for a morning meeting at 6:00am. Then you go home and come back for a shift that starts at 10:00am. Then they would call you back to see if you could work at 7:00 to midnight for closing. Too many split shifts.

    Advice to Management

Trying to do self daily training and go and do sales at the same time is not productive. It is difficult to meet sales target, when you have to leave the floor to do on line video training.
Far better to have live classes on site. Take the test and certification then be on the sales floor.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Interesting place to work if you enjoy interaction with many customers.

    Cons

Selections from part time to full time are not fair. I have seen a few get full time after only being at the store for 3 months and others been there for 19 months and trying ti get full time and are excellent workers but get passed over.

    Advice to Management

Treat your full time and part time employees equally.
