I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The "Homer" fund; very charitable organization.

    Cons

Corporation has organizational schizophrenia, particularly with respect to the At-Home-Services Divisions. Constant turmoil and policy changes make it difficult to succeed. LOTS of corporate favoritism - territories never divided sensibly or fairly. You have NOT control over your schedule, hours, or how much you must travel between jobs (paying ALL your own gas and expenses).

    Advice to Management

Stop screwing with the compensation plans of the Field Sales Reps.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great earning potential, if you are lucky.

    Cons

This company finds any reason to penalize your commission. They manipulate sales to prevent paying bonus, and you work long days. Some sales reps have access to the scheduling software and are able to pick and choose appointments, leaving others with appointments in low income neighborhoods far from home.

    Advice to Management

Fair distribution of work, not putting your best reps on the best appointments will allow everyone to make money, not just the manager's friends.

Holding commission money for months after a project is installed is unacceptable. We pay our own expenses, stop holding money we need to survive and pay bills!

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It was faster paced so the time went by faster and my department head was a very nice lady. Everyone one that worked at the service desk with me was just wonderful.

    Cons

The management was an absolute joke. They were completely hands off, everytime I did see them doing anything is was talking to each other. They never bothered to learn anything about important departments and it showed. Nobody that worked at that location at that particular time thought the management was anything but embarrassing and frustrating. The company made a lot of claims that I never found to be true either. But its a huge, Mega corporation so its about as expected.

    Advice to Management

Be more hands on. Not in a way that intimidates your employees but offer to help and be a part of the store instead of hide in the back doing what i always found to be nothing.

    Training
    Great for part time

    Cons

    Random hours
Full time was only for more experienced workers
    Online training is not enough
    Can get overwhelming when understaffed
Not everyone works as a team

    Advice to Management

Crack down on people goof off at the break room every other hour since we are only allowed two 15min breaks an a 1hr lunch break

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

People are nice, 4 weeks of paid training

    Cons

Leads are not so good, you use your own car and have to have 100/300 insurance. No gas reimbursement, you will work 60 to 70 hours a week without pay, commission-only and it takes forever to get paid. Management expect you to work in the store for free in between sales calls. Management constantly changes your appointments out of your area and sometimes you drive hour and a half to an appointment. Kitchens and baths are very expensive for the customer and most likely no sale. Appointments are set between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. and you may not get home until midnight
