I worked at The Home Depot part-time

    Pros

I recently left the company after seven months of cashiering on the front end. I actually really liked my job. I thought the management at the Vista store was fantastic! I worked with an awesome friendly crew on the floor. I loved the relaxed feel that was felt most the time and I loved the interaction with my customers.

    Cons

There was some micromanaging going on with the head cashiers that was getting to be a bit out of hand. Being treated like a 12-year-old is not good for self-esteem or morale. I knew how to do my job with full confidence. They just needed to let me do my job instead of assuming I would make mistakes. There's a huge amount of focus on matrics, the number of customer surveys you did, and huge pressure to sell a lot of credit cards. If not for that I would still be employed there but I know the head cashiers motives will never change & I have a difference of what's important to my customers.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of training and ability to move from one department to another should things get stale. Most associates are friendly.

    Cons

The pay is not competitive and because of California minimum wage increases, raises rarely occur when moving laterally or up in hourly positions.
Year round hiring signs at front door breeds resentment because existing associates feel they're worth chopped liver.
Training is masked as educational however it is more safety focused to prevent injury and of course HD's bottom line.
Asset protection is a joke and often falls upon the associates to call thieves out by giving good customer service yet are treated as if we are the ones responsible.

    Advice to Management

Raise salaries, promote more and have a bit more faith in your employees.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

flexible schedule, co-workers were good. thats about it

    Cons

poor pay, especially for amount of responsibilities. very unorganized system, it was normal for customers orders to be lost. Nothing streamlined, no set procedures for anything.

    Advice to Management

set up some guidelines and procedures. pay according to work load and keep other employees updated with necessary information, so time is not wasted. make system more user friendly and minimize the number of sku's for single item. streamline computer system.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The minimal skills you learned. And the bonuses use to be good.

    Cons

A yearly raise is 25 cents. No set scheduling. You have to bend beyond backwards to move up.

    Advice to Management

Stop acting like your job has meaning and importance because it’s really the department heads and sales associates that run the company.

    Pros

Very good with scheduling, co-workers are friendly, and managers are always willing to help.

    Cons
