I worked at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get to know where a lot of important parts and tools are, the great team work involved in helping customers. Engaging with carpenter's, plumbers, electricians, and welders, after a while, you get to guess what someone came I to home depot for. The connection between co-workers are professional and personal as you become friends outside of work, people want to constantly see you do well or ask if they can help in any way if someone is going through hardship. And with home depot being a corporate company, people can always be encouraged to do/learn more, and to escalate in the company with knowledge.

    Cons

Rude customers, unsatisfying working conditions (like extreme heat & no water), last minute tasks that take away from my free time while trying to leave work, bad management, and poor attitudes from long work weeks.

    Advice to Management

My manager was nice, always engaged in helping us whether it was to go up the corporate ladder or just an extra hand in remembering a few steps from trainings.

The pay was great, the people (coworkers) were super cool, and you learn a great deal of information about the department you’re in.

    Cons

Customers can be know it alls and try to tell you what you already know. Not all departments are that great.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Diverse environment working in multiple verticals with store associates, vendors, and installation partners.

    Cons

Political hidden agendas and hypocritical policies. Your asked to "do the right thing", support customer service and protect the brand, but often penalized for doing just that. Reporting and evaluations are skewed to favor those in good graces. You have to be very careful to navigate land mines of favoritism, those afraid to be exposed for their ignorance, and those that turn the other way rather than having the managerial courage to truely "do the right thing" and speak up for those unwilling to bend to these pressures.

    Advice to Management

Reward those who practice what your founders and leaders preach and coragiously address the favoritism, sexism, cronyism, and blind ignorance to what happens in the Services divisions.

    Pros

Team atmosphere with a challenging approach to shrink mitigation. Reasonable pay, with the opportunity to bonus twice a year. Ability to create your own schedule.

    Cons

Role for an asset protection manager has been reduced drastically which makes the position scarce. The theft culture is ever evolving and the demographics for the areas covered with asset protection managers bring many challenges attempting to reduce theft impact.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Amazing Company with great history of success in the marketplace and retail overall, as well as a very bright future when it comes to adapting to customers and associates evolving needs.

    -Benefits
    -Upward Mobility
-Many Career Options retail or non retail based positions
-Protecting Associates is a Huge Priority for HR

It’s a true gem of a company when I hear stories of competitors and the way they care for their associates or the lack there of, plus the company continues on a strong path for growth which is always great to be a part of.

    Cons

It truly hard to say there is cons more just general opportunities that Home Depot associates have to work hard every day to address. If I had to name one issue, obviously managing compensation more based on location of employment and the cost of living there is a big concern.

    Advice to Management

Executive Leadership it sometime seems spends less time in the stores and field than in our history. Also operations and Inventory is crucial to our success, but customer face to face time has to continue to be the highest priority of the company to protect the Brand and live the values.
