I worked at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly staff, hours were pretty flexible.

    Cons

There's so many products it's hard to provide customers with information on everything. Some manual labor.

    Advice to Management

Maybe an informational handbook for employees to help them navigate through product recommendations.

    Pros

Regular employees and customers are a pleasure and most are pleasant

Management is not helpful nor forthright training or assisting associates in department

    Advice to Management

Go back to sensitivity training and LISTEN to people who have experience dealing with public AND employees and stop retaliating because you’re butt hurt over complaints

    Pros

Great place to work. Customer service is number one. I learned that in life as being an electrical helper. . Staff is great 👍 👍👍. I can run 3 depts at one time. It can be done with hard work.

    Cons

Good management and coworkers. They give you a lot of room to learn.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work.

I worked at The Home Depot (More than a year)

    Pros

I had some genuinely cool and pleasant coworkers, and the clientele is generally relaxed and not over-needy (as retail customers go). You get the chance to think out of the box and help customers with interesting problems and needs.

    Cons

The management at my store (most of which is gone now) was awful, and everyone knew it. The service and organization suffered, and customers could tell. Regular customers would tell me to my face how our store was the worst HD in the area. Careful about the management and supervisors, they matter.

    Advice to Management

Do everything you can to offset the rigid corporate-imposed hierarchy. Insisting on chain-of-command communication, refusing to get your hands dirty, and throwing employees under the bus will quickly lose your employees' loyalty and enthusiasm.
