I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They do a great job of recognizing employees who go above and beyond. Also encourage new ways of thinking for process improvement. If you have an idea for doing something better, most are willing to listen how.

    Cons

Many people in upper management are very hierarchical. Many systems are antiquated.

    Advice to Management

Improve systems to gain employee efficiencies and allow communication between all levels.

    Pros

Everyone that works at Home Depot loves the company, and the pay is very good. And the fringe benefits, especially as it relates to employee stock purchase plans are amazing.

    Cons

The primary con to working at Home Depot is the hours. Home Depot employees work very long hours, and never seem to get enough done.

    Pros

If you are willing to negotiate aggressively it is possible to get a competitive salary in SOME areas. They do not offer any sort of career guidance and HR is practically non-existent, but if you take ownership of career and network internally you can advance within the company. Also, I enjoyed almost all of the people who with and made great friends.

    Cons

The work- life balance is tough. 55+ hour weeks are typical within the finance organization and some areas of merchandising

    Advice to Management

Invest in analytical systems and you'll see the return in the investment in the productivity of employees. Too much time is spend pulling data and not enough analyzing it.
