I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Loved the culture, employee engagement, minimum stress.

    Cons

Leadership should listen to the supervisors with an open mind and understand that they know what they are talking about.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Depends on your coworkers and management but I stayed so long because of the people I worked with. It was like a second home at one point and despite the work being tough and almost too much at some points, the support and teamwork made everything worth it. Also has competitive pay and great benefits from 401k to stock options!

    Cons

Recognition and the getting taken for granted by management can be issues depending on who that management is. Turnover can be high so I’ve seen really great managers that promoted fair work and others were I felt I was being taken advantage of which is why I ultimately left. Workload vs. staffing was always a constant issue.

    Advice to Management

Be fair and and be the leader you would like to have. It definitely takes you farther and makes the store culture better for yourself and everyone else.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, insurance is awesome, you get paid time off monthly, and paid vacation annually, 401K match, and bi-annual bonuses.

    Cons

Normal woes of retail, occasionally difficult people to work with, new staffing model has been very difficult, not enough people to cover departments, you have to be able to do many things at once.

    Pros

Wonderful company to move up in as training and internal promotions are common place. Networking is very easy and beneficial.

    Cons

Retail hours so scheduling can be difficult to deal with at first. Consistent scheduling has helped the associates but does not apply to the supervisors.

I worked at The Home Depot (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Home Depot can be an excellent employer if you need to work unconventional hours. They have a 24 hour workday that can be excellent for students and parents. Home Depot is also a good place to learn home improvement and general construction knowledge.

    Cons

The Home Depot does not pay their hourly employees very well. They post record breaking profits, and pay their upper management exorbitant sums, but hand out meager raises to their front line employees.

    Advice to Management

Reward your employees fairly. If they are excellent, don't just tell them... pay them for their hard work and dedication. It will reduce attrition and increase sales for all the obvious reasons.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you are working in a larger store, you have better support and more ability to focus on your metrics.

    Cons

If you are working in a smaller store, you will be working at the desk by yourself and have to call people to come over and cover you so you can use the bathroom. Good luck getting any of your breaks.

    Advice to Management

Support your service desk and your service desk will make your store hum.
