      Advice to Management

Please reduce your dependency on Indian contractors. International students are fine, at least they gel with the team. The H1Bs are just ridiculous, they behave as they own the team if they stay for an year or more, intimidating the new employees. They don't pass the knowledge and are very wary of their status asserting superiority. Whenever a new comer joins they team, they avoid helping him. This happened to me, they...

Current Employee - IT Software Engineer in Marietta, GA
        Approves of CEO

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time for more than 3 years

        Pros

        1) You get to work with some of the latest technologies in a collaborative environment. Recent IT transformation has made it more about teams of engineers who code and solve problems together. This is a welcome change from the previous model (before 2015) where tech leads/managers delegated the work with ridiculous deadlines and there was a huge dependency on contractors who took the knowledge along with them when they...

        Cons

        1) Home Depot strives to be an IT company but still treat IT teams as auxiliary. They are moving teams away from the main SSC building in Smyrna to smaller buildings in Marietta (MTC) to alleviate horrific parking issues. But this also means no access to the full-service gym, large cafeteria and; daycare. 2)You only get 6 federal holidays. You do not get the day after thanksgiving off FYI, so you have to use your...

        Advice to Management

Learn to do some coding so that you actually develop some empathy and appreciation for those who work through the roadblocks to deliver the product.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time for more than a year

        Pros

        - Learned a ton about cloud services straight out of college - Was able to get tons of traction on my side automation projects - Diversity, THD IT department is actually fantastic about hiring women and giving them a chance to excel. - Directors have pretty solid roadmaps

        Cons

        - Managers are very hit or miss - Culture is weird and kind of forced. Also expensive - Talent pool is very polar. A handful of 5 stars, a lot of 1 stars.

        Advice to Management

Your college hires are usually fantastic. It's probably worth trying to keep some of them even if you have to give them a raise.
